Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo will become obsolete

I say let's give Nintendo another chance next generation and see if the market responds more positively. If they give it their best and end up making little to no profit, then maybe they should reconsider their role as hardware manufacturer.

I personally don't care where Nintendo games end up as as long as they're still high quality and the box that plays them isn't ridiculous like the Apple Pippen or the PS3's $600 price launch. Thank goodness Sony didn't try to pull that again even though they ended with 80 million plus sales last generation.

So you anwsered me politely then I have to apologize for being a little bit agressive!Did you read the analysis on neogaf?Especially this:just another thing, Nintendo needs to sell 759.319.667 games per year at 5 $ in the App Store to account for the same hardware revenue. And 30 % goes to Apple. (Comparing last fiscal year)
.

That's revenue again though...

They wouldn't just lose the hardware revenue they would also lose all the associated costs so wouldn't have to sell anywhere near that much to make up the difference.

Oh...Believe what you want, ingore a professional financial analysis that shows that nintendo makes more money on hardware than on software, even Iwata said that this is the main reason why they would never go third party  and the other one reason is that Nintendo software wouldn't work well on non nintendo hardware according to him!For me the  phrase I wrote before, ends the discussion:just another thing, Nintendo needs to sell 759.319.667 games per year at 5 $ in the App Store to account for the same hardware revenue. I like your sarcasm, if it is ._.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Nintendo could easily survive by just developing handhelds. I don't think they even consider going third party. Maybe they get rid of their home consoles, but handhelds will definitely stay.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

Revenue =/= Profit

Also being third party would open up a much larger potential userbase to them, so software sales could potentially soar, while the lack hardware manufacturing costs could increase their margins even more.

And it should be noted that at the moment I'm more looking at the home console market with this, they are fine in the handheld market (for now)

Again, as Ka-Pi said that is revenue, you can have a huge revenue stream and not make any profit at all. Just to give a short example, last year Sonys biggest division in terms of revenue, with 1630.1 bln Yen, was their mobile division, which still lost 75 bln Yen. On the other hand their Financial Service division "only" had 993.8 bln Yen in revenue but made 170.3 bln Yen in operating income.

It's not all about the size of the revenue.

It doesn't matter whether people believe it or not, it is factually incorrect. Revenue is not profit.

Ka-pi sadly you don't seem to understand!Lets stop the discussion...

If Nintendo would do that, that would be pretty good. In my situation for example: there are some Nintendo games that I would love to play, Mario Kart 8, Legend of Zelda ... , but I don't want to buy a WiiU just for some games and to be honest I think millions of others are in the same boat. I understand why so many people find this a horrible idea, but I personally would love it.

They just need to stay the hell away from cheap micro transaction infected tablets.

If they go third party, then that would also bring their older games to the system.

Did I get mad over anything? I don't think so. The mentality of "I want everything without having to spend money" is just bullshit. If you want quality, then pay for it. Nothing good in life is free.

You got that right. Nothing good is free.

Everytime you see a Nintendo player say oh I wish I had X Y or Z on the system (i.e. RE5 and RE6 is a good example).  Sony and Microsoft fans say go buy another console to play the game. Yet they don't realise that people wanted those games on Wii because of the motion controls that RE4 added to the game.

Then when games liek Bayonetta 2 are annouced as exclusive and peopel go threatening developers lives and their own if they don't get it on their system and you happen to say "Why not buy a Wii U" you get abuse because the hardware sucks.

Yet in this thread people are talking about "who cares about hardware it's all about the games" If they truely belived that statement they would go buy the systems that the games they want to play on. Hell I bet most the people on the internet whinging about console prices being too much are the same peple who replace their expensive iphone every 6 months.

It is true. Will be obsolete, but there is time to change that.

Since Nintendo only deals with video games, handhelds, consoles and nothing else. Well, people losing interest in their console is major problem and eventually if things don't change, they'll have to stop making consoles to stay profitable and relevant in the video game market.

As long as you use a controller I don't see why Smash Bros wouldn't work well with a tablet.

Well, you need a stand and a place to put that tablet while u are holding the controller and from my experience, a lot of the cases that come with tablets that act as a stand are terrible
