Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo will become obsolete

I don't completely agree with this "the handled market is shrinking, there's nothing to do about it" dogma I hear everytime. Actually the maket of games played on-the-go has grown exponentailly. Imo both PsVita and 3DS are flawed hardware designs, a good handled console could cater to a significant share of the mobile market.

It doesn't even need to. Even if the market consists of only 50M people, it's still a huge number to develop software for.

The market shouldn't shrink that much more now anyway.

The reactions in these threads are always very telling, apparently the box that plays the games and the exclusivity of those games is more important than simply being able to play the games.

Aye, which is why everyone should go PC only. In all fairness there's really no place for Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo's stuff, and all would benefit greatly if they all ceased to exist.

Honestly Playstation and Xbox do have a place, because they offer platforms on which not only they but all third parties are making money on, tons of money, they are viable platforms for the whole industry.

Nintendos platforms on the other hand are largely completely financially unviable for the industry aside from Nintendo, so if nobody but Nintendo makes money on their systems (and that is basically the case with the Wii U) and if Nintendo struggles to make money on the hardware itself, then one has to wonder why they don't just ditch the hardware and concentrates on what they're actually really top notch in: Making games.

As hardware makers though, do they really have a place? Wouldn't it be much better for both gamers and the industry if they stopped making hardware and instead provided services such as Steam for PC and mobile platforms? Pretty sure the part of the industry that's currently making money on PS/Xbox systems would make even more money if Sony and MS went down that road.

I don't want them going third party, simple as that.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

So in other words, you don't really care about the whole "games being avalible to play eveywhere" then? Just Nintendo games being avaliable everywhere? Heck, the whole industry is making money on PC as well hence why you have many games being ported to PC so why shouldn't Uncharted and Bloodborne come to PC?

I don't really care, no.

So why did you say this then?

"The reactions in these threads are always very telling, apparently the box that plays the games and the exclusivity of those games is more important than simply being able to play the games."

I thought by that, you wanted the games to be in every platform since thats the only way that most people can play the games

Learn some facts before you...Ι  won't tell it,I won't get rude because of you...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=740455 Nintendo makes more money from hardware!

Revenue =/= Profit

Also being third party would open up a much larger potential userbase to them, so software sales could potentially soar, while the lack hardware manufacturing costs could increase their margins even more.

And it should be noted that at the moment I'm more looking at the home console market with this, they are fine in the handheld market (for now)

Don't try to argue with logic, it won't work.

I don't have any evidecence to suggest the actual handled market won't shrink anymore. I honesly don't know. Still I think the potential market for traditional handled consoles is larger than the actual market, because 3DS and PsVita are simply weak consoles.

This is a old disk stuck in the same track. I heard it with while I was owning a Ps3 last gen, I heard it again with X1 and I heard the PC gaming is dead I do not know how many times.

Wait now I'm confused. What I meant to say was that I wouldn't really care if PS or Xbox exclusives were available everywhere.

So you anwsered me politely then I have to apologize for being a little bit agressive!Did you read the analysis on neogaf?Especially this:just another thing, Nintendo needs to sell 759.319.667 games per year at 5 $ in the App Store to account for the same hardware revenue. And 30 % goes to Apple. (Comparing last fiscal year)
