Nintendo's being talking it up about allowing third parties to work on their franchises, I think this is a perfect opportunity. After all it worked out ok last time.

It worked out great in terms of producing a stellar game, but not so well financially; F Zero GX only shifted 650k copies.

Starfox's controls worry me deeply. It sounds like he's just used the franchise for window dressing to sell Nintendoland 2.

You overreacting way too much. Just because they had that F-Zero minigame does not mean Star Fox, or F-Zero, will be downgraded to that level.

Miyamoto's comments on Starfox very much sound like he's just shoehorning awkward Gamepad controls just to try to justify the controller. Novelty for the sake of novelty.

Yeah... I don't see a new F-Zero game happening anytime soon.. :/

Fast Racing Neo is as close as we get. Not sure how that game is coming along though.

FRN is becoming Shin'en's Last Guardian, haha. It was supposed to be released last year, now it doesn't have any release window at all.

Last we heard was in an article dated 3rd December, where they said "We're in a good way though, we have something running and the gameplay is fine, so we just need to add content."

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/12/interview_shinen_multimedia_on_fast_racing_neo_and_its_development_approach

So, it took them all this time to make a functioning engine and they haven't actually made a game yet? Damn. Maybe we'll see it by the end of 2015.

Shin'en is like five people. And they have made ports and other games in the same time. To bad FAST Neo is taking longer but actually Shin'en is very busy and they really have high standards for such a small dev.

Shin'en knew how big their team is and how busy they are and how high their standards are back when they predicted a 2014 release window for FAST Neo. That year has come and gone and we haven't even seen gameplay and it sounds like they haven't even started making the game yet.

What he actually meant to say:

"We are going to rename the F-Zero series to Zero-F to represent the Zero Fucks we give about it. Please understand."

Like a lot of other devs, including Nintendo, they seem to have underestimated the demands of full-blown HD development. Art of Balance was pushed back as well; originally slated for a Q2  release  last year, it ended up arriving in September in Europe, October in NA, and December in Australia.

@the_dengle:
Sure, but it's not that tey're the only ones delaying something.
Watch Hogs
Project Cars
Drive Club
Witcher 3
Batman Arkham Kinight

just to name a few. I really wanted 90's Arcade (that might come never ever to Europe thanks to Nycalis) and FAST in 2014, becaus all those sims and semisims with the same cars over and over again have become somewhat boring.

But i'm fine with all those devs taking longer and polishing their games. And i'm very confident in FAST Neo being a really good game.

Nintendo on the other hand could at least contract a third party dev to make F-Zero GX HD with online if they don't make a new one.

I think you need to read between lines, and Miyamoto is just trolling. :)

I understand that F-Zero is already in development, that till now they didn't development because they wanted something new (gamepad), similar story like Star Fox, and that they will be in full development with Mr. [Takaya] Imamura when they finish Star Fox.
