Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto comments on future of F-Zero

As part of a discussion with YouTube channel Smosh Games, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto touched upon the possibility of the company working on another F-Zero racing game. Here’s what he had to say:

“I actually made F-Zero first, and then after we made F-Zero we made Mario Kart. But we see a lot of other designers who are kind of making more traditional racing style of games. So, we’ve tried to focus on something that feels a little bit more gamey. So, maybe if we create a new type of controller interface, and we find a controller interface that’s particularly suited forF-Zero, then maybe we’ll do something with it in the future.

“Actually, the lead designer on F-Zero who I worked with on the original is Mr. [Takaya] Imamura, and I worked together with him also on the original Star Foxgames. So right now, the two of us are busy working on the next Star Fox game.”

Star Fox is currently in development for Wii U and will be released sometime in 2015.

So they haven't worked on F-Zero because Miyamoto is trying to figure out what to do with the controller and is busy with Star Fox.

Makes sense. Though I wonder what hurdles Miyamoto is facing regarding controls

no f-zero for the wii-u period.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

But, why do you say this? He's still doing ok, well, aside from that Sticker Star; but still.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Hey, Miyamoto, you know what controller would suit F-Zero? A standard controller. Do you know what controller would suit every video game? A standard controller. You can't fix what isn't broken. "Create a new controlle interface" -- what are you intending to do? Whatever it is; I can tell you right now that it isn't a good idea. The Wii faltered late in life because of its controls and the Wii U never began because of its controls.

I dunno, Pikmin 3 is good and the new Star Fox can't really damage the franchise any more than the last 3 entries did.

Heres an idea, quit worrying about "new gameplay experiences via innovative controls" and just make the damn game with a standard control set T_T

When I was playing F-Zero GX, I never once thought to myself, gee, I hate the controls in this, I hope they redo the controls to something better! No, not even once, the controls were tight and responsive and they worked. Stop it you people

Fast Racing Neo is as close as we get. Not sure how that game is coming along though.

Hey man, do you still take Miyamoto's comments that seriously?
