Forums - Sales Discussion - UK: PS4 No. 1 in 2014, beat XB1 in Nov & Dec combined

MS can't win back with the way they started in this gen. Let's at least hope they can keep it close for the sake of competition.

I think they can win the UK and US. Last generation, the 360 took names and look how that played out in the end. Things can change.

MMw, the Xone is not even at 10M sold.
Or else Ms would already say it officially, i can't believe they won't say something big like "10 M XONE SOLD".

Really overtracked in the EU, 100% sure. And probably for the ROW too.

the xbox one is at 10m sold through as of 3th january even in the worst case szenario

xb1 is at 5m end of november usa
xb1 sold ~1.25m in november npd

december is 5 weeks and usual bigger than november
the absult lowest possible amount the xb1 will sell in december is 1m. and even selling more than 1.5m has a way higher chance to happen than below 1m

so us sales alone will be 6 - 6.5m
november uk sales were 1m mid november with one week left. xb1 sold 120k in the last week of november (mckv revaled numbers)
so 1.12m and still 5 weeks left. lets say 280k as minumun in uk and 380k as maximum
that result in 1.4 - 1.5m xb1 in uk

us + uk sales = 7.5 - 8m as of 3th january
last gen, us was just shy of 50% marketshare for the xb360
us + uk were just shy of 60% marketshare for the xb360

end of 2013, us + uk were just shy of 70% marketshare for xb1 (3.1m sold ww and ~2.15m us+uk)
and that was without the launch of tier 2 territories

if the xb1 sales in us+ uk will be only 7.5m (lowest possible) and the marketshare for both is 75% (highest possible) we are at 10m sold through
if the xb1 salres in us+ uk will be 8m and the marketshare for both countries is just 65%, we would be at over 12m sold through

if u want to know, why the marketshare for us+uk cant be 80%  as example, just do some math.
10m sold through would leave only 2m for all countries outside us and uk (that also inlcude canda, mainland europe, brazil, 45k from japan, china and australia / nz)
the outside of usa and uk sales for end of 2013, were at ~850k already. that would only leave 1.15m for the whole year in every other territory
if u go by just 9m sold through, its even more ridicolous. 7.2m usa + uk and only 1.8m all other (with over 800k sold in 2013 alone) so not even 1m xb1 sales the whole year in the whole world (without usa and uk)

I don't see why people think the Xbox One is not at 10 millions yet because MS haven't said anything?
Sony announced 10 millioms back in August before holiday season and destiny hype even got release. So it was safe to assume that the PS4 will be at a minimum 17 millions.
Why would MS boast selling 10 millions while Sony is sitting at 18.5 millions?
As the gap is getting bigger MS just won't release numbers

Weird, some people were incredibly sure the X1 was winning these last two months, even if the charts didn't bare that out.

Chart track said the ONE won in novemebr and for 5 straight weeks. They actually stated it.  So PS4 obviously won December.

What this shows is that the difference was minimal in each month for both.

Possibly, but I don't think we can know that. It could have been a large difference in December.
All we know for sure is that PS4 won by a larger margain in Dec than XO did in November.
Of course that margain may only have been slightly larger. But can't rule out that it could have been significantly larger either. Unless I'm missing something?

You're not missing anything, he is just keeping his hopes up

Given the global moderate overtrack this means both PS4 and Xb one are probably overtracked in the UK at least for December, with Xb one being slightly more overtracked than PS4. Either that, or ioi is estimating too many PS4's sold in the not-dirtectly-tracked markets and that things are generally fine in the UK, and either PS4 should be bumped or Xb one should drop a bit.

Interesting that Sony specifically said PS4 won Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Whoever won Black Friday probably won that week, but that doesn't quite gel with what MCV said, unless they meant Xb one won the 5 weeks leading up to BF.

Anyway, winning Nov/Dec combined means the gap grew in the holidays, making it even more difficult for Xb one to have a shot at becoming #1 in any territory other than the USA, and maybe it'll stay ahead in China if PS4 sales are generally at the same level as Xb one there.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/xbox-one-sells-1m-in-the-uk/0141711

the bf week, ps4+xb1 sold 240k units
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/has-black-friday-damaged-december-sales/0142899

xb1 being slightly ahead

so uk xb1 tracking until november is fine.
december could be anything form udertracked and overtracked.

the wrong ps4 numbers are probably from row and maybe mainland europa. uk is the best tracking by vgc after japan
ps4 in the us was overtracked by 100k before november npd

I don't see MS announcing any more sell through numbers officially, unless they are making a "we won X time period, and by the way sell through is now Y million." type of announcement.

The "almost 10 million" announcement is pretty guaranteed to mean they were highly confident of achieving it before the end of the year. I think they certainly managed it.

Good for PS4. From what I've seen they had some great deals there and earned the win. Now if only they had treated the US market the same this holiday.

With that logic why has Microsoft released numbers that are dwarfed by Sony previously....
