Forums - Sales Discussion - UK: PS4 No. 1 in 2014, beat XB1 in Nov & Dec combined

PS4 was the UK's best-selling console in 2014

Sony has added to its global PS4 sales info by confirming the console’s UK success in 2014.

The platform holder says GfK Chart-Track data shows that PS4 was the UK’s best-selling console in 2014 and also the best-selling machine on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November.

It was also the best-selling console in the final week of the year and the best-selling across November and December combined, although it has previously been claimed that Xbox One was the best-selling machine in November alone.

Earlier today Sony said that PS4 has now sold 18.5m PS4sworldwide.

The most recent Xbox One count had the console pegged at 10m shipped, not sold, as of November.

PS4 hit 1m UK sales in early September while Xbox One reached the same total in late November.

Microsoft’s machine enjoyed a few spells of superiority in the UK in 2014, both immediately after yet another UK price cut and for Black Friday week ending November 29th.

Speculation suggests Xbox One put in a strong showing in the US late in the year, although PS4 is almost certain to be crowned as the region’s best-selling 2014 machine.

Weird, some people were incredibly sure the X1 was winning these last two months, even if the charts didn't bare that out.

MS can't win back with the way they started in this gen. Let's at least hope they can keep it close for the sake of competition.

So PS4 had a good December to mop up the November.

Those deals were amazing for the ps4 here... still are.

Its pretty clear there wasnt much in it either way in November for ONE or December for PS4. Both sold very well and very close to each other obviously, which is a big improvement for the ONE over the rest of 2014.

so much for your 7 week winning streak.

PS4 won! Wow. Really impressive.

Well, there you have it. So, much of this speculation can be laid to rest. Seems like the US will be the only major battleground this gen. Quite the turnaround!

Why is UK no battleground?

As tight as the US? Doubt it, which is why I said: major. Didn't say the UK wouldn't be any fight at all.

I guess at least Sony considers it as major seeing how many deals in UK were as a counter to Xbone deals.

Spreading false information. lol.  why do you have to be so dramatic.

I was quoting the last official news and VGC numbers.  There is no conspiracy.

nobody is trying to be dramatic. fact is, you claimed they won 7 weeks in a row, when they didnt, and you claimed it as fact, do you deny?

I'm guessing November was pretty close if PS4 won Black Friday & Cyber Monday?

Either that or December was a strong victory.

Either way, pretty interesting after seeing the 5-weeks-in-a-row victory for XB1. Both consoles doing very well!
