Well when you consider how shitty Bayonetta was on PS3 those numbers are very high and of course the same game as an exclusive will sell more than a multiplat on any indiviual console since sales are split. Anyways, I have said already that 500k is not a flop, so no need to argue about that.

Your avatar is kind of proof that shitty games will still sell for some strange reason.

How can anyone say this without knowing the game's budget?

Let's look at it from Nintendo's perspective. They will likely get about an average of $40 /copy on the low end (digital sales give 100% revenue, and retailers will vary in cost.) $40*500,000 copies sold (current sales) = $20 million in revenue. Do you think this game cost more than $20 million to make and advertise (Nintendo barely spends on marketing)? I think Nintendo could've broken even on it to be honest. They probably spent a quarter of that revenue toward Sega for publishing rights, and the rest to fund game developement. Additionally, we don't know what additional revenue the release of the game has induced in Wii U sales. Even if this game is not a system seller, it diversifies the platform's game library and might cause higher demand for the Wii U, despite it not selling one console in itself.

From Platinum's perspective. The game lets them have jobs to support their families, while they probably didn't net a huge profit, they are still sustaining their developers.

From Sega's perspective. They got money to cover whatever investments they put into their version of Bayonetta 2 and probably extra on top of that.

Maybe I'm missing something though. Maybe costs do exceed revenue.

Just because I like its cover doesn't mean I like the game itself. Yeah I bought it at launch but it was a buggy mess and obviously its not my fault I bought the game because I didn't know how it would turn out to be.

I don't think the game could have cost more than 35 million dollars , but anyway, Nintendo wanted to put Bayonetta 2 on Wii U to fill the absence of "hardcore" titles in the console and also to continue the expansion of the whole library; and they took it because it didn't have any publisher and the game was certainly going to be good.

That being said, even if the game was a flop, Smash and Mario Kart 8 are titles made to fill these loses.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Doesn't change the fact that Unity sold a lot of copies. And you could have just read the reviews lol.

500k in retail sales so far....
It doesn´t seems that it sold a lot on digital format.

Everybody was expecting more, for sure. But I think if it ends with around 700k in the end of its commercial run (like ZombiU or Lego City Undercover), Nintendo and Platinum will feel ok.

The console has already peaked this year. Just wait for Nintendo's new console in 2016.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

Errr...it is your fault because you bought the game at launch. DONT BUY GAMES AT LAUNCH. How hard is it really to wait a day or two? I know this isn't a thread about pre orders, but when are people going to learn that preordering is a terrible practice for everybody

I don't see these thread titles anymore, so I decided to bring it back.

X is a MAJOR flop. We need to talk about it.

Your title is lacking. Your OP is missing a lot of statistics. I rate this thread 6.3/10.

In any case, Bayo 2 seems to have sold about half a million from the VGC database, which isn't really that good for a title that had Nintendo's backing. It doesn't even appear as though Bayo 2 will even hit a million lifetime.

It doesn't is that bad compared with what people expected:

11 thought Bayonetta would break 1 million, 16 thought it would sell below. The average prediction (not counting that 14M joke) is 870K.

Took long enough to make this thread. I remember somone, forgot who, said he would make a topic with this exact title in a topic where people were predicting 2 million lifetime for Beyonetta 2.

Here is the prediction-thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=192165

Seems people weren't this outrageous with their predictions as you try to paint it.
