You guys are attacking him way to quick, he makes some good points in that U.S does spend the most on games. PS3 outsold 360, yet 360 beat it in software sales, and you know why? Because it dominated it in the U.S, also look at the original Xbox's attach rate, it was amazing.

Sure U.S doesn't equal the world, but it is the most important market by far, and people that say the other countries spend just as much as U.S are kidding themselves. Check the other big markets like Germany,France,Italy,Spain,Japan, U.K(not 100% sure on this as it is very similar to U.S) and you'll see that there software sales are much less than U.S in attach rate to consoles sold.

If you were to ask any of the big 3 if they would rather sell 40 million consoles in the U.S, or 40 million in the R.O.W they would choose U.S.

No its not.

For instance, GTA V sold best in Europe

Pokemon sold best in Japan.

Why the hell would Nintendo want 40 million in US, if their they didn't buy the most of pokemon for instance.

Biggest single market size is not the same thing as more important, especially when you consider market preference.

Or are you going to tell me Fifa sells best in the states?

No, regions have preferences, and prefrences alone make it impossible to cater to one region alone and have variety.

So no console company would want 40 million US over 40 mill R.O.W, Just because XB1 has been forced to focus on US and UK, doesn't mean its the only one they want, it is because they don't have a choice.

That's nitpicking, and also GTA 5 sold more in the U.S, don't just look at current gen consoles.

And I didn't try to sound that U.S is the end all be all, I said I don't fully agree with him, but it is the most important market, that's what I was trying to say, cause I can nitpick as well and say that Madden, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Smash Bros, Uncharted, Halo etc etc sell a lot more in the U.S.

I was just trying to make a point that most software is sold in the U.S, I didn't try and make it sound that the rest of the world is not important at all, both Ninty and Microsoft would kill to be in Sony's position, but I used 360 vs PS3 to show why selling more in the U.S is better than selling more in R.O.W.

The US is 35-40% of the video game market. Europe is 30-35%. Actually, some markets spend more per capita on games than the US, and Europe has a higher GDP than the US, with some countries having a much higher GDP per capita. For example, twice as high in Luxembourg or Norway. And not only Europe of course, every market counts.

It's a pity that so many Americans are so misinformed about what's going on outside their country. The ones that I personally know love Europe and Japan and actually view it favourably compared to the US. Of course my sample is biased because I have met them abroad in the first place, but I think the problem is many Americans have little information of what happens in other countries.

I agree about your post, Europe is a much better place to live in, atleast for the middle and lower class people. I know you weren't specifically directing this towards me or the OP, but I have to say we were talking about the Video Game market, and that U.S is the most important, at other stuff such as living, jobs/work etc Europe wins hands down and I freely admit that.

The fact that I can nitpick validates my claim well enough. Biggest =/= most important. Regions have preferences. There are multiple reasons as to why 360 sold more sw then PS4 and it isn't just reason that's extremely naive.

The thing is the site creator is british.

And even if USA is the most important single market it don't equals world. Simple as that.

Yep. It's very important to appeal to a wider variety of gamers rather than just one demographic. This is why the PS4 doing exceptionally well in Europe and the ROW markets (e.g. Middle East, Taiwan, Phillipines, Signapore, Australia. etc.). Being a more universally accepted console also helps make the PS4's library more diverse, which will in turn, not only appeal to fans of certain genres of the markets I mentioned, but also in the US market.

Diversity is the main selling point for me.

Right now I see most Xbox fans focusing on U.S. sales because that's the only place XBOX One seem to have a chance at winning. Don't feel bad though, last generation Sony fans went through what you all are going through right now. It's not a good feeling I can tell you that.

Note that you'll never had any exec from Microsoft say that winning the U.S. is more important than winning the rest of the world. Why won't they say it? Because it's utter nonsense! U.S. sales will always peak during this type of year because we're told to buy things. XBOX One will outsell PS4 around this time because a) Microsoft markets far better in the U.S. than Sony does. Almost every new American show that features characters playing video games has them playing Xbox. And b) As a lead in from a, people see this and will ask their moms to buy them the game they saw the guy on Nickelodeon playing. And 3) What do you expect when you have a console that is from the country in question, $100 less to buy, and comes with free games? No one is surprised that XBOX ONE beat PS4 this holiday season. It would've been interesting to see how the 2 would have feared with identical price points and no freebies attached.

Sorry, OP, but you seem to be very misinformed. There are too many problems with your arguments and you're using the word "fact" wrong, which is one of my biggest pet peeves.

For one thing, the wii was insanely successful and made ninty tons of money even without those services.

Edit: ninja'd

And in the end it still lost to the 360 in NA.

A-MUUUUricAAAAA... F*CK YEaH!!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Just to take it short, got some work to do:
I think to some degree it's that way because the US is extremely good at culture export via TV, Movies... whereas the small european entertainment industries are not.

Dude, if you got to Ireland, a tiny country with 4 million people, we have dozens of famous actors(Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, half of game of thrones, Pierce Brosnan etc etc), movies, Bands, Music and even TV shows. We have our own TV channels, your's and the UK's to view. Although Hollywood has made the US what it is in image, it is not much more than the entirity of all of the European nations combined. You wouldn't know though, because you speak English, as do I.

Actually speaking german, a little dutch, forgot pretty much all my fench exept ouvre la porte and my english isn't as good as it was. What i actually definitely see is that there's pretty much foreign music in charts but most of the foreign stuff is from the US, even if U2 is one of the most successful bands.

What i also see is that there's Death in Paradise, Linley and tons of english crime stuff versus some megatons of US-shows.

On the other hand probably no one outside of Germany knows Mord mit Aussicht. Not to talk about german movies, except das Boot. As for french movies, Americans somehow like to make pretty bad remakes of pretty good movies.

Guess Ireland and Great Britain are not so much into that because of language. You don't need a US-version of Top Gear or Trainspotting.

So yes, there's a difference. Most european Countries don't get the majoritiy of their entertainment culture out of europe.

Pretty much lol.
