Funny thing, VGC tracking for germany isn't to bad.
PS4: 1,200,000
One: 270,000
So it's to good, that we are totally unimportant. ^^

Actually speaking german, a little dutch, forgot pretty much all my fench exept ouvre la porte and my english isn't as good as it was. What i actually definitely see is that there's pretty much foreign music in charts but most of the foreign stuff is from the US, even if U2 is one of the most successful bands. What i also see is that there's Death in Paradise, Linley and tons of english crime stuff versus some megatons of US-shows.
On the other hand probably no one outside of Germany knows Mord mit Aussicht. Not to talk about german movies, except das Boot. As for french movies, Americans somehow like to make pretty bad remakes of pretty good movies.
Guess Ireland and Great Britain are not so much into that because of language. You don't need a US-version of Top Gear or Trainspotting.
So yes, there's a difference. Most european Countries don't get the majoritiy of their entertainment culture out of europe. |
So the script are not Irish then, or snow patrol or Hozier? Maybe you just think these things are american when they are actually Irish. Then there is the fact that there are even more English bands and groups. The US album charts has more foreignors in it than Americans.

Then kids shows like Doc McStuffins, Octonauts, Peter Rabbit, Henry Hugglemonster. All made in Ireland by Irish people at brown bag studios. How can you claim that the only there is only U2? So ignorant.
Not so much ignorance as an example.
And yes, maybe music is more international, still a great american influence in music history over the last 50+ years. That is including stuff like british blues rock, that was influenced by american blues and then again influenced american music.
As for kids tv in germany, there is german stuff as well as british and so on. But the single biggest probably is US stuff.
Doc McStuffins, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this Disney?
That sounds saying Clone Wars is asian because it was animated in Singapore. No offense.

It's under the disney umbrella, but it's made in Ireland and was then bought out by Disney. It's still brown bag studios, similar to how most american car companies are owned by foreign car companies but they are still american car companies. Star wars was from america and then outsourced. No offense but i's completely different. Saying Doc McStuffins is from singapore would actually be the same as saying Doc McStuffins is American. It is still made in Ireland. See, the problem is that Americans lay claim to everything. Like Halloween. An Irish Holiday, but Americans have "laid claim" to it.
EDIT: Brown Bag studios which produces Doc McStuffins was not bought out by Disney and also produces shows for Nikelodeon. They simply distribute their shows through Disney.
A Great american influence on Music? Yes a very great one. America = world? No. And just an FYI even american country was greatly influenced by Irish trad music. It's just sad to claim ownership over everything.
That is kind of arrogant... i really dont know what to say without getting into a long dissertion.
So, here, it is true that america consumes more than europe in terms of software, but in terms of overall console sales its pretty close. You really dont have any sort of margin to even suggest that US=the world.
Not claiming ownership.
Except for cars, because i'm german. ^^
Does American culture itself have a heavy influence from European cultures? Definitely, because it's a still young culture that derived from multiple european ones.
It's not like Murica=world but like having the american pop culture overall dominating. And that means, that you can find movies, tv-shows etc. from there pretty much everywhere, but you will find much less from the most european countries altogether somewhere outside their homecountry.
Partially that might only be a language barrier.

That is exactly what taking ownership is. If you multiplied Ireland X 50 or England X 50 and compared their contribution to culture and media internationally, they would absolutely eclipse the US massively. My wife is American and once when we were joking about this, she tried naming famous Americans. 4 out of 5 of them were Canadian, Australian,British or Irish. People like Mel Gibson, Micheal Buble, Liam Neeson (who she said had a terrible fake Irish accent in movies haha), even Ed Sheeran. As a matter of fact, the other English speaking countries combined with a lesser population than the US, have more famous people, even in the US, than their are famous Americans.
Hollywood is an amazing thing though. Because once someone is associated with it, they are thought to be from their. And FYI, even your comment on Doc McStuffins, it IS offensive and it IS rude. Also, saying things like Ireland only has U2, when we currently have 3 or 4 people in the top 30 in the US, that's just annoying and also rude and offensive.
"but you will find much less from the most european countries"?? You do understand that European countries are like one state of the US in size and population and this comparison is ludicrous. A normal comparison would be comparing the EU to the USA with similar population and GDP.
Also, the whole "Murica" thing, that started as people mocking Americans for being dopey and illiterate. Please help me understand why people do that?

Yep. It's very important to appeal to a wider variety of gamers rather than just one demographic. This is why the PS4 doing exceptionally well in Europe and the ROW markets (e.g. Middle East, Taiwan, Phillipines, Signapore, Australia. etc.). Being a more universally accepted console also helps make the PS4's library more diverse, which will in turn, not only appeal to fans of certain genres of the markets I mentioned, but also in the US market. |
How do you know it's doing good in the Philippines? The Wii U is more popular as far as I know, because Filipinos like light hearted games more than violent ones.

Yes, europe and even EU is not one but many states, dozens of languages etc., i know that. Actualy living pretty in the middle of it. And i didn't say that all Ireland has is U2. It actually is the biggest thing that comes from the green Isle in music business.
On the other hand, can you name five internationally famous german actors or five musicians/bands? Without google of course.
Somehow seems i pissed you of, didn't intend that.
