Forums - Sony - Bloodborne Producer: Targeting 30 FPS because it's better for action games

Well that's a silly excuse. The PS4 is powerful as well so they really should have made it 60fps.

Powerful enough to push those kind of graphics at a solid 60FPS? Sure, it may be possible but they would need to optimize the hell out of the game. It just wouldn't be worth delaying the game 6 months just for that.

Kojima-san and Naughty god(they at least claimed U4 will run at 60fps though I heavily doubt that) our last beacon of hope.

And Nintendo; their games still typically run at 60fps.
Or did you mean on PS4?

yh, butthey also usually run at 720p and sometimes eveen without AA

I thought we were talking about framerate?

Locked 30fps is fine but to say it is better tha 60fps is pure fabrication. Almost as bad as being more 'filmic'.

Or maybe it would look more like Tomb Raider or GTAV. 7th gen games that technically more impressive than DS2.

Have you played Destiny on PS3 by the way? That holds up surprisingly well and probably has more enemies on screen along with co-op players. Open world and 30 fps as well! :-O

Of course Destiny holds up well since it's an old gen game, like most cross gen games, the tech is not really impressive, not so next gen, the art direction is.

Well, just wait for february and digital foundry analysis, you'll surely find some interesting informations about Bloodborne tech

Why not just explain what makes Bloodborne technically impressive and why its so crucial to the gameplay.

Or we can just move on. I'm fine with either.

Fast action open world game with a good number of ennemies + great animations + beautiful assets and great lightning effects + real physic simulation on player and ennemies ( this is the kind of next gen effects you'll see a lot this gen , it makes the thing more dynamic visually , you can see that on clothes, on wolves and especially on first boss with all his hair moving dynamically, it is rather impressive and what impresses me the most in the game, it makes him really alive, this kind of things takes a lot of power and are really next gen, especially with so many ennemies and so many things on them) + i'll let DF explain the other advanced technical stuff.

This is simple, it's impossible for such game to run on old gen, even in 680p 10 fps

I didnt say it was crucial to the gameplay,  since i said you could have the same game with DS2 tech ( well even worse than dark souls if you want a fast souls game and as many ennemies ) like you could make Infamous on PS3 with Infamous 2 tech and Ryse on 360 with old gen tech. But it is crucial to the atmosphere, it is crucial if you want to keep the optimal experience as the dev imagined it. Like they themselves said, it was impossible to do such game on old gen

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Bingo!

Visually it would take a hit on 7th gen, but the gameplay itself could remain intact.

The biggest flaw in your argument is you seem to think Dark Souls 2 is the full potential of 7th gen consoles. Those are just poorly optimized games.

30FPS is better for action games.... um.

I'd wait for a second opinion on that one.

Edit: I'm no tech guy, but isn't 60fps better than 30fps in all cases when (BOTH ARE STABLE).

^That is the truth.   Having said that, anyone who owns a console better get used to 30 FPS.  The CPU's in the consoles can handle tons of data fine, but they can't move that data as fast as a 4GHz desktop CPU.  They were always meant for 30 FPS.

GOOD, it would look like a PS3 game if it was 60fps

30fps is standard and will remain so on consoles, but there are quite a few console games that run at 60fps, they just need more optimization and/or pared back detail compared to their 30fps counterparts.

It's a matter of priorities.
