Forums - Sony - Bloodborne Producer: Targeting 30 FPS because it's better for action games

I thought we were talking about framerate?

Yes I was, but more importantly I was talking about the choice all devs seem to be making these days.

Thing is that any and every game can run at 60fps. It ust comes down to what you are ready to give up to make that happen. Lower framerate, less complex geometry, less post processing effects....etc. So basically devs are constantly having to choose between maxium possible eye candy and higher framerates. They all apparently are choosing the former over the latter.

Nintendo runs most of their games at 60fps (not all of them) but that is also cause they run them at 720p with simplified geometry and minimal to no post processing effects. The games on the PS4/XB1 are leaning towards higher rez, higher IQ but then taking a framerate hit and settling for 30fps.

30fps seems to be fast becoming the industry standard.

So this topic is still going even thought that's not what he said? LOL

"Fast becoming industry standard"? It's been industry standard since the 5th gen, haha.

You can still make an attractive looking game at 60fps and I'd contend that Nintendo are again a good example; games like Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 look great at 60fps. Sure, they could be more detailed at 30fps, but then the gameplay would be less responsive.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not against 30fps with greater detail when it makes sense, but devs should stop giving us BS excuses and just be honest.

It was a bad translation guys

Actual clarification with no BS attached,
We choose graphical fidelity and atmosphere over frames per second. Because we can't make 1080p/60fps happen, because the PS4 simply can't manage it and we don't plan to delay the game so we can make it happen.
People saying 30fps is unplayable, you must've hated Uncharted 1/2/3, God of war 1/2/3/Accension, The last of us and GTA 5. Stable 30fps is better than unstable 60fps.

Still gotta appluad them for targeting 30 fps. Not sure what they were targeting for Dark Souls...

That's the fakest fake woman I've seen. Just one level below CGI

Who is she?

The Last of Us and GTA5 were hardy a "stable" 30fps, they dipped into the 20s all the time.

It is better, 60fps look a bit weird to me.

Fair enough, but still I loved playing those 2 games, Bloodborne will hopefully be stable though since it combat requires it, bayonetta on PS3 was unplayable on very hard due to frameratedrops, hard was possible although pure platinums where rare. My comment was primairy against pc master race fans which claim everything below 60fps is not worth playing.
