"Targeting 30 FPS because it's better for action games"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

If I get banned for this it was worth it.

This industry is a fucking joke.

Isnt the 60 fps the excuse for the rerelease of TLoU within a year? What was the way it was meant to be played? Apparently he isnt the only one thinking 30 fps is best for action games.

Way to overreact. I'm sure Masaaki Yamagiwa knows a thing or two about designing video games.

What the joke is people collectively loosing their shit over fps and resolutions these days. If the guy feels that 30fps is best for certain games he's working on, then deal with it.. otherwise there's always PC.

Why not just explain what makes Bloodborne technically impressive and why its so crucial to the gameplay.

Or we can just move on. I'm fine with either.

I didnt say it was crucial to the gameplay,

Bingo!

Visually it would take a hit on 7th gen, but the gameplay itself could remain intact.

The biggest flaw in your argument is you seem to think Dark Souls 2 is the full potential of 7th gen consoles. Those are just poorly optimized games.

Like i told you, the same thing can be Saïd for every AAA game on PS4/X1, even the most impressive coming, they are just 7th gen games with better ttech just like bloodborne, so i dont see your point.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

You missed the point rofl. Not the game being 30 fps is what i am laughing at (which is sad enough) but this 1 specific sentence because it is factually wrong.

It has nothing to do with opinion or whatever. For fast paced games or games that need precise controls 30 FPS is a joke.

And btw targeting means 30 with drops. Which is even worse than solid 30 fps and not even solid 30 fps is "better" for action games.

FPS > resolution > effects/polycount.  They can easily make the game 1080p 60  but gameplay is clearly not their focus.

Well the translator fucked up because he didn't mean it for ALL action games. Just the game HE's working on.

Its a dev's choice at the end of the day.. They targeted 1080p/30fps as they thought it would be a good fit for the game (and platform). Nothing more. Nothing less.

I thought we were talking about framerate?

Yes I was, but more importantly I was talking about the choice all devs seem to be making these days.

Thing is that any and every game can run at 60fps. It ust comes down to what you are ready to give up to make that happen. Lower framerate, less complex geometry, less post processing effects....etc. So basically devs are constantly having to choose between maxium possible eye candy and higher framerates. They all apparently are choosing the former over the latter.

Nintendo runs most of their games at 60fps (not all of them) but that is also cause they run them at 720p with simplified geometry and minimal to no post processing effects. The games on the PS4/XB1 are leaning towards higher rez, higher IQ but then taking a framerate hit and settling for 30fps.

30fps seems to be fast becoming the industry standard.

"Fast becoming industry standard"? It's been industry standard since the 5th gen, haha.

You can still make an attractive looking game at 60fps and I'd contend that Nintendo are again a good example; games like Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 look great at 60fps. Sure, they could be more detailed at 30fps, but then the gameplay would be less responsive.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not against 30fps with greater detail when it makes sense, but devs should stop giving us BS excuses and just be honest.

I don't think you realize we are agreeing on the same thing. I only disagree with the nintendo part cause there is an obvious reason their games can hit 60fps. Yes a game can still obviouly be good looking at 60fps. But if the same team made the same game but went down to 30fps they would naturally be able to make it look even better. What I am basically saying is that now every dev seems willing to do just that. Slow it down to make it "look better".

Thats why I said in my original post here that only Kojima MGS5:PP which is running at 60fps and 1080p on the PS4 and naughty dog U4 who has supposedly said U4 will run in 1080p@60fps too are our last hopes of teams that will go for really good looking AAA games while still hitting 60fps.

I will change my opinion on nintendo if tehe new Zelda game is running at 60fps and at least with some AA. I appreciate that they see 60fps as important to the "feel" of  a game, but I can't comend them for doig something when I can obviously see what they did (or didn't do) to make it possible.

It won't really be any different with Uncharted 4 or MGS5 though; if they achieve 60fps it will be because they cut their detail in half compared to what it would have been at 30fps. No matter what the game and console, 30fps will always give you twice as much budget per frame as 60fps.

Having read the translation correction, i think it's clear he isn't saying that 30fps is inherently better than 60fps. Rather, he's saying that for a game like Bloodborne, the benefits of 60fps are outweighed by the benefits of freeing up resources with 30fps.

In that respect, i totally agree with him.
