I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I don't really subscribe to the view that Wii sales should just be seen as some anomaly and all Nintendo should hope for is selling ~15 million consoles and accepting that their franchises will just constantly decline in sales. As a publicly traded company Nintendo can't accept that. If they're not achieving growth, let alone undergoing massive decline the company will be taken over and die. And as a Nintendo fan I don't want that to happen.

MK8 will probably end up selling a quarter of what MKWii sold. That is catastrophic. As I said in the OP, there is a thousand reasons the Wii U is a flop, but I think the lack of new IP to get new customers on board is definitely a key one.


MKWii sold nearly 35 million, a quarter of which is about 8.5 million, and after 4 months MK8 has sold 2.7 million, I doubt it's going to sell 6 million more, I'd be surprised if it hits 4 million.  It's barely in the top 30 after many users said it would remain in or near the top 10 through the holidays.  So that is very catastrophic, personally I feel that Smash will sell worse considering Brawl sold only a third of MKWii and with the 3DS version scratching some itches, I don't see the newest Smash outselling MK8.

lol watttttt? You have a good point.... Its only been 4months, It has one of the best legs in video game history (mario kart), its not going to stop selling intill 2020. It'll hit over 4mil by years end, it hasnt had a holiday which is where nintendo games gets most of their sales from :)

Seriously though, i can see it selling over 100k in its 7th year or at least its 6th year.

MK DS is now 10 years old and is already over 100k this year without the holiday and is still over $25 :0

MK7 is in its 4th year and has over 600k

Nintendo side: Mario, Donkey Kong, Ice Climbers, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Earthbound/Mother, Kid icarus, Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, Pilot Wings, Punch-Out, Puzzle League, Metroid, Star Fox, Nintendo "Wars", F-Zero, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Yoshi, Pokemon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Brain Age, Custom Robo, Mario Party, Mario Vs Donkey Kong, Sin and Punishment, Wario, Fatal Frame, Touch! The main series for Sony that people will constantly bring up are: Rachet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, Twisted Metal, (arguably)Crash Bandicoot, Killzone, Ico and SotC, Sly Cooper, 

 

For what itès worth, Sonyès exclusive library has zero variety where as Nintendo has plenty of established exclusives in almost every genre of game.
