Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft employee warns Nintendo: don’t lose the magic by "mistake"

I agree. It's a slippery slope.

There's a good deal of irony in there XP

Yep but people are too busy taking pot shots at ubisoft to think about it.

"I have no doubt that the day that Ubisoft ever creates some novelty DLC, even remotely in a similar vein, the Nintendo fans shall emerge to remind them of today."

That's petty, I consider myself a Nintendo fan but I sure hope I don't stoop to that level. Things happen, and if Nintendo or any other company I liked had a similar accident I'd want people to be reasonably understanding.

What magic? What the fuck is he talking about?

He was talking about the magic which makes Nintendo games ( most of them at least) so fun and unique!

On one hand I don't have a big problem with it. It doesn't seem egregious.

That said if it starts to seep into things like Mario taking a swig of cool, refreshing Coca-Cola after completing every stage or something ... then we have a problem IMO.

I'm fine if its one and done, but if this starts to show up in more Nintendo games I'd agree.

I have no problems with the cars. Since they aren't forced. But if say a prompt would pop up at the end of a race, advertising them. Then Nintendo fails.

We can look at the glass half full argument: He's saying Nintendo has magic.

he's actually saying: nintendo is magic

If you read the article then you'd see he says mariokart 8 has magic.

Ubisoft has already done worse. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 contained multiplayer maps with billboards advertising REAL products and upcoming network tv shows.

But honestly it's not the same thing. Ubisoft has no "magic" to lose. Mario is special and I'm sure these are the comments of a genuine Nintendo fan who is disappointed to see cheap product placement in a beloved franchise. Just because he works for Ubisoft, doesn't mean that this isn't coming from a genuine place.
