Ubisoft has already done worse. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 contained multiplayer maps with billboards advertising REAL products and upcoming network tv shows. 

But honestly it's not the same thing. Ubisoft has no "magic" to lose. Mario is special and I'm sure these are the comments of a genuine Nintendo fan who is disappointed to see cheap product placement in a beloved franchise. Just because he works for Ubisoft, doesn't mean that this isn't coming from a genuine place.
