There are a far bigger and better variety of western titles other than Call Of Duty. I never even mentioned that game lol.

If selling 1 million+ is a big deal, then all western games pretty much are doing well, or rather very well.

Of all those Japanes games you listed, none intrigue me, like they don't excite many others like me. Western games are the main reason gaming is fairly mainstream, you should be glad that western developers and consumers exist. Otherwise gaming would have completely been an iOS thing by now.

Nope. Playing games on cell phones is about as mainstream as it gets.

Without western FPS PC infestation mainstreaming games we'd have consoles still sold in the toy department and be socially shunned as something only kids play and we'd have awesome games again instead of a billion realistic military shooters and sports games.

Gaming is too cool for its own good now. Having a $500 console is a status symbol now and having is just too cool for its own good now.

Ok dude...get over it. I guess you want to have toys instead of consoles. Go out and buy those Skylanders figures then.

Video Games Crash of 2015. Calling it now.

Western developers yes. But not eastern, they still have integrity.

Currently the opposite seems far more likely. Western developers are far more ambitious than the Japanese (except Kojima Productions and Polyphony Digital).

Video game crash is already hapening in Japan, can't say the same for the West.

Uh, nope. That "ambition" is leading to dev teams falling apart left and right and 500 million dollar budgets and Tomb Raider needing 5 million plus to break even.

Japan's smaller budgets are saving thier asses. The "crash" there might be in part to so many devs giving up on making games for them coupled with all those new taxes over there.

Compared to what? Japanese games are only "crashing" when compared to CoD sales.  Wii U could be selling more than SNES or NES ever did because oh no its not surpassing Call of Halo 15 3/4.

Japanese games are doing as well or better than they ever have.  Ni no Kuni 1 million +.  Bravely Default? Smashed it.

The difference is now everybody compares everything to Call of Horseshit and deems it a failure if it's not 10 million sold in 1 minute.  Japanese still develop for their core niche audience and haven't sold out to the casual mainstream.

I remind again the most universally revered games of all time like Chrono Trigger , Final Fantasy VI, Link to the Past (?) Never broke 1 million on their original release yet were critical successes that made their developers what they are today.

Gaming was and is still niche.  This Call of Duty and Angry Birds nonsense is a FLUKE, a mainstream fad, and the sooner people understand that and stop chasing $$$ the better we will all be.

No. Because western game budgets are MUCH higher. The problem.

No offense but I've seen you start a lot of flame wars yourself...

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

You are right. And I dont want to be part of that in future. I hope everything goes well.

Gaming nowadays isn't what it used to be 10 years ago, granted. But while the "obsessive fans" suck the life out of every discussion on the comments section, my problem is more with the alleged journalism.

While reading gaming news on the internet doesn't affect me negatively, reading a non-stop barrage of rumors does. If I get all excited for a rumor that turns out to be fake, I get all disappointed and lose hope. If they are hyping a rumor that will turn out to be true, and reveal it... yay... I guess. Every secret, every rumor has to be discovered by someone and thrown out for the internet to read it. The element of surprise is gone. Thanks to this, the videogame industry can't surprise us anymore. We have to see the gameplay, we need to know all details. For what? To get bored quickly and trade it in. This is what drives me off.

You say this like it's an insult?

To me skylanders was one of those magic kid moments games, you buy it, buy some figures, and they come to life. Absolutely loved the first skylanders.

But what happened next is the problem with the industry currently. Any good idea gets run into the ground while having its appeal broadened for a wider audience. There are just too many skylanders to collect, and new moves are locked out of old figures forcing you to buy new ones etc.

To me the Japanese gaming industry has it right, they know their niche and make their games accordingly and are happy with modest success.

I don't have anything more to say to you then. Good luck with your Japanese games.

While I would continue to play my western titles (most of which aren't even FPS unlike what you said) as well as the best of what the Japanese have to offer (Metal Gear Solid, Bloodborne, Gran Turismo).
