Forums - Sony - Honestly, what was Sony thinking regarding Vita memory cards?

Why don't they drop the price already? It's almost criminal to charge this much for 32 gb.

i agree with you its just greed.

Seriously  Gameboy games allowed you to save your progress 20 years ago. Vita carts cant?

I also was thinking about buying a vita 10x or so but everytime I was like "ah shit I need a memory card  fuck it"

if the memory cards were purely optional for people that want PSN games okay. But making it proprietary was extremely stupid.
I can buy a 64GB SDXC card for 20€ But have to pay like 36€ for a 16GB vita memory card  and 77€ for a 32gb version.

A quick search on Amazon shows that you can have 128GB cards for $70.

At this point, though, I bet they see the Vita as such a lost cause they don't even care anymore.

FYI $ =/=€    also US =/= EU.

Good luck finding a 64GB version on Amazon Germany.

In Germany you cannot even order a 64GB Memory card. its a Japan import. The biggest memory card you can find is the 32gb version. The most common is the 16gb version

Why does sony do this? Because Europe is Sony land.

LOL I know, I was talking about SD cards. :p

The ship has sailed on cutting memory prices to boost sales at this point. Neither Sony or third parties are putting enough effort into Vita development to foster more interest; without that, any other steps they take at this point won't be enough.

First Nintendo handheld that doesn't use a proprietary storage format.

Compared to a handheld whose predecessor had a huge rate of piracy.

an updated code base isn't gonna stop pirates, formatting storage mediums is a much better solution but even then there isn't any 100% solution.

Piracy is just not commonplace on the system especially with its demographic.

Meanwhile, the Vita is the PSP's successor, so while obviously the Mem Cards are a cash grab, piracy is a substantial concern.

are you confused ?

your post confirms Vance's statement is absolutely spot on.

"but well written and constantly updated code" will not do shit, the first thing hackers do is patch firmware or downgrade the system.

"(just look at the 3DS, standard SD cards and no problem)." piracy is easily possible on the 3DS, so its not no problem.

Spot on Indeed

-_-

be consistent, you tried to contradict Vance's claim that "just look at the 3DS, standard SD cards and no problem" and tried to illustrate that with proprietary formats that were actually hacked way worse

nobody here is saying there is a 100% unhackable system, so trying to pull that card is just miserable

There is a huge difference between no problem and minor problem. That was and simply the use of an updated code base was the only criticism I made.

The reason, I said their is no such thing as an unhackable system was to point out that mentioning the DS using proprietary hardware and being hacked is pointless. Because it wasn't to the scale of the PSP.

Not to mention the 3DS profiting off of hardware sells, making it a poor example of using any old storage medium

EDIT: Not to mention you have no evidence to support this claim "proprietary formats that were actually hacked way worse"

Vance said the DS was hacked not that it was hacked worse than the 3DS.
