Pros

Well integreted Zelda traditional features, boss fights, upgrades, Coop & Adventure mode, Zelda universe well rendered, cutscenes

Cons

Repetitive as hell, graphically underwhelming, dumb AI, mute characters, some missions are too long, too few characters, no online multiplayer

For comparison, Gamekult awarded PS4 Dynasty Warriors 8 a 5/10

Just lol.

Bolded is pretty much what the Musou series is all about. Maybe they should pick their reviewers more carefully.

I mean that's like letting someone with severe motion sickness and and acrophobia review Starfox.

Even if the whole Musou series is like that, that still doesn't make it a good feature or design choice. Developers don't want their games to feel repetitive, if it does then they failed on some level, so this game should very much be critized for that.

Also, considering that a lot of people planning to pick this up have probably never played a Musou game, it is very much a good choice to let people that don't have much interest in the franchise review the game.

Warriors games get no love

HW would have gotten a 101/10 from them if it had Groose from the get-go!

The first point doesn't make sense since everyone has his preferences. I for one think that shooters are very repetitive. Every shooter fan would disagree with me on that. And since it is shooter fans who will buy shooters and not me it might be better to choose a reviewer who is involved in the genre to talk about the more important parts of the game.

It wouldn't help anyone if I were to review Uncharted and gave it a 5/10 just because it's one of my least favorite genres. People who don't like the genre wouldn't have bought it anyway and people who would actually enjoy it might not have played it. That is a lose/lose situation for everyone.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Exactly what I expected. A new skin doesn't make the core game any better (or worse).

Hope it can be sorted out, otherwise my Wii U will just sit there for another month doing nothing

The first point makes a lot of sense, no developer goes "let's make our game as repetitive as possible", doesn't happen, so if basically the majority of western reviewers constantly say that Musou games are too repetitive, then those games are failing on the western market. So saying "the game is repetitive" is a very valid criticism to make.

What doesn't make sense is your second point, cause people aren't so set in their ways that they'd never try out games from genres they normally don't like, for certain reasons. For example a person that normally doesn't enjoy third person shooters/adventure games has heard so often that Uncharted is supposed to be great, so he now wants to try out the game. Whose opinion is worth more to him? Those of the people that love the genre/game or those of the people that, like him, don't really enjoy such games?

Also it's kinda ironic that you make such a point in a thread about Hyrule Warriors of all games, a game that is going to be bought by a lot of people that normally do not give a crap about Dynasty Warriors or games like that at all.

gamexplain on youtube played the game japanese version for over 6 hours live and there were no freezes or drops.

Yeah well its definitely a thing though. KT are working on a patch right now. Should be good before western release I would hope.

Anyway big surprise here, Musou game is a Musou game regardless of the skin. Will be there day 1 to enjoy all of its Musou goodness.

..
some games just aren't more than 5-6/10

I like bladestorm (also from omega-force) quite a bit and played it for 45h, but that game is a 5, no way around it - super bland environments, extremely repetitive missions and combat, and zero impact story presentation .. atleast it stays out of the way by mostly being quickly skipable text, as the writing of the fictional dialogues (the overall story ofc is pretty straight from the 100 years of war in france) is very low level

So the game is as good as expected.

Well that depends. How many bonus points was it given for being Zelda?? Because no Musou fans expected it to be better than DW8XL on PS4.

Seems it scored better than expected.
