In context of how much ground the 360 gained worldwide after the OG Xbox, this is kinda scary. All that progress the 360 made for the brand... *swoosh*... gone. And the PS4 is outselling the X1 by more than 4:1 YTD in Germany. It's just a total massacre.

It goes back to what I said a lot last gen - that while Microsoft definitely put up their best efforts, they were up against an incompetent, arrogant Sony. When both brands launch at the same time with competitive prices and/or game plans, the PlayStation will probably always be ahead, thanks to its worldwide brand name, which is bigger than any gaming brand. The US/UK/JP are the only real battlegrounds for PS vs Xbox and PS vs Nintendo.

Well I agree but I think that Europe can also be a battleground for Nintendo Vs Sony. Nintendo was popular with the NES/SNES/WII and can be a real threat for Sony (in Europe) no in this gen but in the next. However, it's true that in Europe the Ps is very very popular.

Eh, Nintendo was popular with the Wii everywhere, but that success is not something that they can just repeat like that as they've shown, actually I'd wager that the probability of MS or anyone else creating another success like the Wii was is about as high as Nintendo recreating it.

As for NES ans SNES, these are the total hardware sales of those according to vgchartz:

10 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) 33.49 8.30 19.35 0.77 61.91
11 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) 22.88 8.15 17.17 0.90 49.10

It was really only the PS1 that brought console gaming to the masses in Europe

4 PlayStation (PS) 38.94 36.91 19.36 9.04 104.25

Some anecdotal stuff from germany!

PS4 shipping became better, but the console is still sold out every now and then at my local Media Markt.

Xbox One just doesn't sell at all. The Titanfall Bundle dropped as low as 349 € at one point (was 449 € yesterday, so the price was raised again, I don't know why) and people still didn't want it. I still can't find the kinectless Xbox One anywhere at a retail store, because they are all still struggling to sell the Titanfall bundle, let alone the old boxes from launch. I'm not kidding, you can even still get a day one edition if you search a little. It's that bad.

Xbox One prices went down for the whole inventory. You can get brand new games like Wolfenstein cheaper than for 360, sometimes for just 40 €. Controllers packed with battery pack got to 45 € last time I checked and there is always plenty of stuff readily available.

Shelf space is going down. It's not as tiny as Vita, but considerably smaller than the massive PS4 section.

Wii U isn't selling too hot, even with Mario Kart Bundle. Always plenty of consoles available, you don't see too many people walking out with it.

tl;dr: Xbox One is dead in germany. The numbers are exactly what I would expect from what I'm seeing here every day.

When will people accept that its the Rest of World numbers that are way off on this site for PS3 and 360. Unless of course you want to say there are 4m on shelves.

The site makes arbitrary adjustments to euro and us numbers to take up the slack from most recent shipped numbers. Shipped numbers aren't lies, they aren't estimates.... They are official. The increase in Rest of World take up has gradually eroded accuracy on this site over the years.

it isnt just rest of world, as you can see here with Germany. Massively off on many consoles.

This site overtrack Xbox consoles too often. Who are doing this ? I read on other website that this site is owned by pro Xbox dudes. This kind of news do not say otherwise.

Take your tin foil hat off, this site makes estimates and estimates aren't always accurate, simple as that.

I'm European and I didn't even know the NES and SNES were a thing until I started frequenting gaming forums. Even the Master System might have been ahead of NES.

Europe was super PC centric before PlayStation popularized consoles.

Estimates often adventage xbox consoles. Just saying...

What if the crazy notion that there are millions of 360's on store shelves ... isn't that crazy. The more data that comes in the more we might have to look at that as a possibility.

Thanks jlmurph!
