Of course...I guess that's why the 360 was undertracked by over a million units for who knows how long.

You mean overtracked by 1 million in Germany ?

Yeah and at the same time undertracked even more in other parts of the world. Vgchartz tracking outside of the US and Japan is just pretty sketchy.
Inside US too is "just pretty sketchy". Won't talk again about NPD
I see a lot of MS consoles overtracked, but not many Sony/Nintendo consoles overtracked.

| DerNebel said: Eh, Nintendo was popular with the Wii everywhere, but that success is not something that they can just repeat like that as they've shown, actually I'd wager that the probability of MS or anyone else creating another success like the Wii was is about as high as Nintendo recreating it. As for NES ans SNES, these are the total hardware sales of those according to vgchartz:
It was really only the PS1 that brought console gaming to the masses in Europe

I dind't know that NES and Snes numbers in europe were so low. It's probably because almost all my cousins had a NES/SNES. Thanks for the explanation
. I should check the numbers next time but I was sure that the numbers for these two consoles were much higher.

sometimes what we assume doesn't hold in reality... I also tought N64 and GC sold good because most of my friends had it and talked about it... just when I started coming here (after I bought PS3 I discovered here) I saw what a massacre PS1 and PS2 done.

if x360 is overtracked 1 million in germany, it has to be undertracked 1 million some where else
becaus we know the offical shipped numbers form microsoft. some where north of 84m

The site makes arbitrary adjustments to euro and us numbers to take up the slack from most recent shipped numbers. Shipped numbers aren't lies, they aren't estimates.... They are official. The increase in Rest of World take up has gradually eroded accuracy on this site over the years. |
It baffles me when people cling to numbers from this site for Europe etc when discussing "flops/victories" because until we get dribs and drabs of information like this, there is no realistic way anyone could track the sales accurately. It's all guess work. Sometimes it's pretty close, other times (as with 360 in Germany) it's miles off. We should take it for what it is, a general indicator.

Europe was a 3 way split between the home computers (Atari ST and Amiga 500 etc were pretty big as gaming platforms in the early 90s) and SEGA also had a solic market share with the Mega Drive. Nintendo has never really cracked Europe in the way it has other parts of the world apart from with the DS and Wii.

Maybe microsoft overshipped 360 in third world countries with hope that they would buy.(this countries usually are the last ones to jump)
