Forums - Nintendo - Rumour: Infighting in Nintendo Management Leads to Scheming to Get Rid of Iwata

This makes about as much sense as a rumor that the POTUS's cabinet is plotting to oust him from office.

But I'm willing to entertain this rumor because it makes people reconsider how good they have it under Iwata. I think fans calling for his head don't realize what would happen to the company if they got what they wanted.

I agree. We could get a really greedy guy who would sell his own mother for a nice lunch. Scary stuff.

They also ported Mega Man X to iPhone and that also failed as a game! Fuck Capcom for screwing up my favorite Mega Man games like that! >:(

If there ever was a company that desperately needed new management...

Let's stop talking about Capcom because I feel like throwing up everytime I talk about that company..

Nintendo makes great games. I don't think it's coincidental that the president of their company is a game designer. Just imagine someone like Don Mattrick or Peter Moore sitting in Iwata's seat if you enjoy feeling queasy.

Yeah, I would like to see those guys take a paycut when the company is not doing as well.

Excuse me, Don Mattrick is the best CEO of all time.

Mattrick would make the Wii U sell a Billion consoles in a year, then rehire Iwata who had been training in the mountains under Bill Gates and the Ghost of Steve jobs with Kaz Hirai, and leave with out getting a single paycheck saying "Zynga needs me!"

Eh, Nintendo's profits are down? Auction off more of the eShop storefront as ad space! Raise rates for our Nintendo Network Gold Subscription! Hire the cheapest dev studio you can find to make a new Advance Wars for mobile platforms! Make sure it plays just like Clash of Clans, that game is really popular.

why dont the have a mobil division that make small unique game just for mobil. No mario, zelda ect but small experimental games. Use young new devs to do so. this way it puts nintendos name on mobile, gives people who dont own nintendo consoles a chance to discover the nintendo magic. And maybe the small experiments will lead to full blown games to put on their consoles that will have a new fan base.

Disclaimer: Take this report with a HUGE grain of salt. Although the original source is in Japanese and is reputable, the translation is unconfirmed and me not be completely accurate.

According to a new report released by the Japanese Business Journal, there is infighting currently raging amongst the Nintendo upper management.

“Among management, there’s a shared recognition that “Iwata is the culprit”. That is, in the company, there is a strong desire to make popular games such as “Super Mario” etc. for smartphones, but Iwata is vetoing this very strongly. Iwata, continually repeating that “Nintendo’s strength is in unified development of game hardware and software”, stubbornly rejects the “net”, and fixates over “game consoles”, possibly because of his pride as a former developer. With the death last fall of the long-reigning company founder Hiroshi Yamauchi, there is nobody left who can defy Iwata. There are frequent rumors that part of the management is scheming to get rid of Iwata.”

According to the report, a lot of the management that has been with Nintendo for a while also feels that Iwata is an “outsider” due to his origins at HAL Laboratory rather than actually at Nintendo. Due to this, many are calling for Yamauchi’s first son to be President of Nintendo rather than Iwata.

Once again, this translation is unconfirmed, but it may mean that although Iwata’s excellent approval rating of 80% has most of stock-holders satisfied, the upper management may not be so happy with the President.

Very interesting.

Seems like click bate. Not enough solid information. Internal scheming against a company or person can be grounds for dismissal, plus there are usually internal or more often than not external third parties that handle this kind of stuff for companies so they can attempt to keep in touch with their employees. Running and spouting this kind of information to a journalist could be considered defemation and again, could be grounds for dismissal. If you are unhappy with the direction of the company you are working for, feel free to go work for another company.

I was gonna say, this can't even be called a rumor. A rumor has at least some basis in fact; this comes off as the incoherent ramblings of a conspiracy theorist after a night of huffing paint and a marathon of Game of Thrones. This is bad fanfiction. I don't NEED to take this with salt it's so goofy. Whoever wrote this is a freaking moron who doesn't know how companies work and the fact that people are taking this seriously ASTOUNDS me. Best to just let stuff this stupid slink off to die in the corner.

Well there is the other point that a lot of Nintendo's games simply wouldn't work that great on mobile.

The top grossing mobile games are not ports of old button based titles. I played Megaman 2 on iPhone ... it was a terrible experience.

they dont have to be top grossing, just sell enough to make a profit which im sure they could do.

Offering a crappy product, in the hopes of make a quick profit, is a terrible way to run a business.  Especially when all of the potential sales would come from name recognition.  It would certainly erode trust in their product.

??? who said anything about releasing a crappy product? where did you even get that from? The products wont be crappy if they do it right

You were responding to a post about their games not working well on mobile.  Hence, crappy product.
