Forums - Sales - Media Create Sales: Week 30, 2014 (Jul 21 - Jul 27)

The difference in Japan and the west in regards to the Vita's and PS4's sales is just staggering.

Despite the Vita doing poorly in the West, the PS4's utterly abysmal showing in Japan means that the handheld still has a part to play for Sony. The Vita is Sony's only foothold in Japan for the foreseeable future, and the PS4 will continue to stay irrelevant until... halfway through 2015? Their total focus on the Western market is definitely apparent (but it's working for 'em so... I guess they'll take that any day.).

@Kowen

Yeah, they obviously want to maintain their presence in the Japanese market, and I'm guessing it's more about garnering eastern developers for worldwide software diversity.

Famitsu first?  NOT ON MY WATCH.

Well, at least 3DS & Vita are holding on somehwat okay.  Decent boost from WiiU too (needs to break that 10k psychological barrier!)

PS4 I'm not expecting anything from until next year.  It's going to be abysmal until then.

Nice boost from Mario Kart, Youkai Watch still crazy.  Tokyo New World Record also opening higher than I was expecting ( < 10k)

Pretty average opening from Corpse Party; steep (but expected) drops from Oreshika & Atelier and poor opening for Yoshi.  I'm also surprised by how low Under Night In-birth is, but Famitsu is showing it practically sold out.  Why such a low shipment?

Freedom Wars will be leaving the chart soon sadly, but at least Sword Art Online & Persona look like they'll keep legging it out for quite a while longer, which is nice because you don't see it often from Vita games!

There is not new Wii U bundle, stop saying that people.

The problems I see with that line of thinking are:

1) A lot of the support they're getting is going to be Japan-only.  Lots of 5pb visual novels; lots of Cave-esque shmups or similar.

2) The "bigger" Japanese games are going to come to XB1 anyway because they need western sales (which can make up like 70% of their total sales).  Providing for the Japanese market may only be a token offer at this point.

3) The mid-tier Japanese games aren't going to be enticed by XB1's sales in Japan unless something changes, because they're going to be making 60-70% of their total sales in Japan and so the market is just going to be too small.

I don't think it's a bad idea for MS to release in Japan, but I can't see them gaining a whole lot from it with their current strategy.  I may not have been a fan of them buying timed exclusivity of mid-tier franchises last generation, but at least it was a strategy with a long-term goal (that sadly didn't pan out).

Well it's either that or releasing it for viable hardware sales... and it's not going to be the latter.

Good news regarding PS4 -> They will have more stock for Holiday sales in the West. Japanese models are probably manufactured by two Chinese guys while on a cigarette break, and they are still creating oversupply.

How low will the PS4 go?

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Let's see what will happen after TGS. Japan is not ready to 8th generation. Production values are too high. Sony released PS4 with western audiences in mind. I think Sony surprised the hell out of Microsoft when they announced PS4's release date (before Xbox One and before releasing in Japan). The strategy Sony adopted is paying off worldwide, excluding Japan.
