I agree with you about the thread, it's way too premature to give any predictions, especially when Halo projects seem to have moved to smaller screens.

My thoughts on the prospects of both:

Uncharted - has more mainstream potential as an Indiana Jones-type movie. It will sink or swim based on the choice of actors and the strength of story. If they cast Shia LaBeouf or some similarly irritating actor, the movie will flop. If they cast that werewolf freak from Twilight, they might as well put all the money on a pile and burn it. The current director is a comedy hack whose biggest action scenes so far were directing a 400 pound woman out of the bathroom stall. The story will probably go through 20 screenwriters and end up looking nothing like Uncharted. However, the story is less important, as it can be basically any scenario, as long as it casts the main protagonists, but it will end up being a battle against the drug cartel in the end anyway.

Halo - less mainstream potential, but much bigger and more dedicated fan-base. That is also its biggest threat, any sidestepping from the canon will bring it ire of the fans, and the entire movie and the movie-making process will be scrutinized more closely bringing lots of potentially bad PR. The cast will probably end up being a ton of B-List up-and-comers (see Starship Troopers for reference). To make a feature film, it would cost hundreds of millions, so I think MS is doing wisely to keep its scope smaller and go the TV-route. If invested and done properly, it could be bigger than Stargate or Galactica, and the competition right now is not that big.

By putting Uncharted in the summer prime time slot, Sony is signaling a huge investment in it, but in the end, we could just get another Green Lantern.

Halo has numreous novels and comics that not only cover Chief but expand it's universe behind enemy lines.

Halo has a masterful animated movie called Halo Legends. It has a TV short serie Forward Unto Dawn and soon to be released Nightfall and the other one directed by Spielberg.

This thread shouldn't even exist.

There wouldn´t even be a competition, Halo would dominate it domestic and worldwide. First off, it wouldn´t be a game centered around Master Chief, but he would probably be a central part of it. Also, the Halo universe offers such a unique mythos that you could actually create something that lasts offer several Movies. And finally, Halo fans will support it all over the World in huge numbers.

How many Halo fans are there? The ones that buy the games?

If all the halo fans in the world goes to watch the movie and it was only they, the movie will flob badly...

A Halo movie will have to be very high budgeted...An Uncharted movie can survive by being more grounded just like any other Indiana Jones clone but with a younger, witter  protagonist for the modern audience....

You need to realize most of the more dedicated Halo fans are here in the US...and you can not  can not, and i repeat can not rule out women. Nowadays, If there is no romatic appeal in a movie. Chicks are less encouraged to see it. Halo will do way better as a series rather than a movie. Uncharted was built for Hollywood.

None  of those are a big budget (definitely $150 million+) movie with a profit-driven movie studio behind it....

the movie studio can give two fucks about fanbase, if they can sell shit to the audience, as long as it makes profit, they will sell.

A Halo movie cant just appeal to gamers but to the general public...the movie fanbase and the video game fanbase are not the same.

also wasnt Forward unto Dawn done by Machinima?

Halo. It might actually be the video game property with the most potential among all video games in the world. There is almost no gaming experience that compares to my first playthrough of Halo 1.

Halo will do better in US but not by too much. Globally I doubt Halo would be more popular than Uncharted, since Uncharted might even fit as a non-gaming series.

Outside of the video game audience who are the young males from teens to late 20s, I fail to why Halo mythos would attract the general audience.  I also fail to see why the general audience would be interested in a lead character Master Chief who wears a helmet with no personality.  More importantly, I doubt the female audience would care about a faceless lead character like Master Chief.

No doubt that Uncharted to appeal more to the general audience.  I do think it would be dependent on the actor chosen to play Nathan Drake.  Hopefully it's not Marky Mark as originally planned.  Nathon Fillon would be a great fit, but he's not a bankable star for a summer June 2015 release.  Although Green Latern bombed, Ryan Reynolds would be able to pull a Nathan Drake.  Ryan Gosling would be okay, but he doesn't seem to have that Han Solo/Van Wilder/Gambler personality for Nathan Drake.  Although Chris Pratt doesn't visually fit as Nathan Drake, he has the persona to pull off a Nathan Drake, and after Guardians of the Galaxy, he may be seen as a lead capable for a big summer release movie.  Not sure who else....

Master Chief would most likely be a central part of the movie but not necessarily the lead. The Halo universe can be about ODST´s, young spartans or someone else within the UNSC. The idea of a covenant of races, all worshipping the forerunners and more specifically the Halo rings, is a combination of fantasy and Sci-fi storytelling that is very strong. Later in the series of movies, the actual forerunners can be introduced, which also pulls the viewer in even deeper.

Uncharted is great as an adventure game in itself. It is just way to generic to fit on the big screen and be big with the general public.

With all respect, Halo is just a much bigger franchise. You cn't go wrong with a solid sci-fi film

It should even be an argument here.
