With all respect, Halo is just a much bigger franchise. You cn't go wrong with a solid sci-fi film

yes you can...oh there is a lot that can go wrong...a Halo movie would be a way way bigger risk than an Uncharted movie...

How?

like i said ealier, the Halo franchise is a sci fi one, Uncharted is more grounded. the cost of visuals, CGI and extras will cost way more on the Halo's side than Uncharted...you are looking at a Star Wars production scale for it to work and to be still meaningful to the base fans. Another big question who will be the protagonist? sure as hell cant be John 117 who currently has no face....unless they make him take his helmet off very often which will kinda ruin the mystery around him. Also Master Chief is too stoic a character to be on the big screen. that is part of his charm as a GAME character. it wouldnt transcend well into the movie. Okay, let say there is a new character introduced, how can you make him appeal to the diehard fans of the franchise....That one character could make or break the entire movie...if the movie doesnt do good, core fans will say it was because of him/her. Also how to draw women to the movies to see this. Willl there be a romantic plot? how to make this not overwelm the main story without deviating from established lore. how can you prove to the non-gaming audience this isnt another crackpot sci fi nerdy nerd movie.

Uncharted on the other hand has the luxury of a more compelling and visual impressive character for a movie. Nathan Drake is smart, handsome, witty and is a adventurous, ladykiller with severe ADHD who lives for the thrill of the hunt and is always almost killed every five seconds. he is very lighthearted too. Chicks dig that. With a well know actor with decent acting skills and beautiful story and a solid love plot, Uncharted will defintely work without really trying. Halo will have to first win over the nongaming community while still having to remain true to its Lore and not alienating its fanbase. therefore bigger risk on a Halo movie than an Uncharted one which can survive by being another clone of Indiana Jones....

Master Chief would most likely be a central part of the movie but not necessarily the lead. The Halo universe can be about ODST´s, young spartans or someone else within the UNSC. The idea of a covenant of races, all worshipping the forerunners and more specifically the Halo rings, is a combination of fantasy and Sci-fi storytelling that is very strong. Later in the series of movies, the actual forerunners can be introduced, which also pulls the viewer in even deeper.

Uncharted is great as an adventure game in itself. It is just way to generic to fit on the big screen and be big with the general public.

lol that would actully be Uncharted's strength..the audience are familar with the story...what is stopping Halo from looking like every other scifi.."we are human, so we win everytime" movie like independence day or war of the world etc..? Hzalo can just be as generic to someone who isnt familiar with its Lore.

And the story of Uncharted is...?

There is a reason Halo is so highly regarded within the gaming industry. As with any great story it is about more than the hero or the villains, or even the Sci-fi setting. It is about fundamentalism, about blind faith and what it leads to. It is about how we regard our history and how history through manipulative leaders (the prophets) can be rewritten. It is about change (the arbiter) and how long we can push our humanity for survival (spartans). It has so many interesting elements that make for great toughtprovoking sci-fi that aren´t only about big explosions and a man in armor.

And the forerunners and the flood will make for awesome teasers into future movies :).

Nathan's realtionships with his mentor Sully and his off and one girlfriend while being chased by baddies after an ancient artfact. Sure it sound generic but if done right it will work...not every movie goer understands or even knows anything about halo. the studio will have to win them over to the story and overview first before anything else. Protagoinst can definitely not be Master Chief. unless through the divine power of supreme script writing can John be the protagonist and the movie still works...

Halo just have more substance than an Indian Jones clone. Period.

Master Chief doesn't need to take his helmet off. Halo: Nightfall is coming this fall, wait and see the new character.

Halo=/= Master Chief. There is a Human story, Covenant story and Master Chief story. Halo has dozens of novels that develop the series in a Star Wars/Trek type of world.

The information you have about Halo doesn't suffice to make an argument about it.

Depends on how good they are. At this point, I think the UC brand is more relevant than Halo. UC4 will outsell Halo 5.

If both movies are of equal quality, I think the UC movie could do better since it may have broader appeal. I'd probably enjoy the Halo movie more though.

Nightfall isnt even centered around John...I am a die hard Halo fan. I have watched every single movie, read every sinlge graphic novel and some novels and even animated movies and animated graphic novels about Halo. this is the only franchise that makes me keep buying MS's consoles. Forward unto Dawn was pure shit and you know it. John was awkward and clanky as fuck when he wasnt being a badass. also he is tooooooo stoic and can sometimes be too much of a yesman. I understand that since he is in the military and is a SPARTAN this is expected but this is true..the most compelling thing about him is his backstory....which speaks more about those who influenced it than it does about Master Chief himself. Dr Catherine Halsey is a far more intriguing chartacter than John is. I would love to find out how she is the way she is and what her history was with Keyes and Johnson. If a Halo movie is ever made, I would rather not John 117 be the protagonist. Guess they understood that that is why he isnt the star of Nightfall...

You're a "die hard" Halo "fan"...

I'm a die hard Uncharted "fan" also.

Believing me or not is your prerogative...
never said I wasnt a PS fan, doesnt mean I cant like a IP from another console...

that is for the fanboys to bash something good just because it isnt on their console of choice.

I personally like Nathan Drake, and the Uncharted series more. I grew up watching the hell out of the Indiana Jones movies. Even though I play primarily on Xbox, my favorite series is Uncharted by far. I think Uncharted will do well depending on what is out in theaters when it releases (competition from other movies could bury it). Critics will complain that it is a copycat of Indy, and Tomb Raider.
I think Halo will do better in the box office it just has so much marketability behind it, Kids will want to see it, because of all the toys out, Gamers, and non gamers have a good idea who he is MS plastered him on alot of products.

You are wrong.  The video game audience and movie audience are not the same.  The video game audience is primarily young males (teens to late 20s).  However, Uncharted movie should have more mass appeal amongst the general audience.  No girls would care about a character where you never see the face with no personality i.e. Master Chief with some generic intergalactic plot about saving human race from aliens.   However, Uncharted movie would be more about character rather than plot, and Nathan Drake is a colorful character that would appeal outside the video game young male audience.

Judge Dredd suffered with that in the first moview where Stallone's face appeared all the time (and the fanbase hated because his face should never appear). The new movie was more classic and never showed his face. Both weren't that good in the box office aspect, but the second movie with the classic approach was by far way better.

I agree with you completely here. Any generic story can become interesting in the right hands and every interesting story can become horrible in the wrong hands. Also, a movie cannot rely on Master Chief, since he is part of the saga, not the saga in itself. It must rely on other spartans, humans or the likes, characters where the personality can shine (maybe focus on a female Spartan?).
