Given the low hardware numbers we've seen until very recently, I actually don't think Tropical Freeze is doing all that poorly...

Well then it's good that you (presumably) don't work in naming or marketing for Nintendo. Since you brought up Mario Kart you may want to look up the sales of the MK series. The two worst-selling titles both have a ":" and subtitle in their name. MK64 sounds like the definitive MK for N64. Same with Wii. Double Dash!! sounds like a quirky offshoot. If you don't understand this, I don't know how to explain it beyond that. |
And yet Mario Kart Double Dash ended as the second highest selling Gamecube game. Thats not bad at all.
The name of the series is "Mario Kart" and the stuff after is the title of the game. It isnt obvious that Mario Kart 7 is the 3DS Mario Kart game and that also sold nearly 10 mio. already.
Same goes to DKCTF.
I know that the average person is more stupid than i can imagine, but even those should understand that this is a game of the Donkey Kong Country Series.
Donkey Kong spin offs are clearly marked as those with titles like "Donkey Konga" or "Donkey Kong Jungle beat".
If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

It's a very good game but they should have waited on it. After DKCR and the port to the 3ds, there was no need for it. Nintendo probably pulled the trigger on it because DKCR sold well on the Wii, around 7 million if I remember correctly.
It still doesn't make sense though. For how good the game is, it should have hit a million sold by now.
The hardware sells bad, and no one wanted the game. There are to many platformers on Wii U already.

There isn't that many platformers on the Wii U. Ignoring the Virtual Console and Wii Mode and indie
NSMBU and it's DLC, NSLU
Donkey Kong
Rayman Legends
Super Mario 3D World
I wouldn't consider that many, for the amount of shooters I remember us getting on PS3 in a 2 year span.... too much.

An actual new game is asking too much?
| ExplodingBlock said: I mean, this game is completely amazing, and it is also only 50$ Seriously, it doesn't even make the charts at ALL and when it does it is at the very bottom Either it sold much better digitally or people don't buy any Nintendo games without "Smash" or "Mario" in the title |
People don't see the value in non Mario 2D platformers anymore. If the game had been sold for say, $29.99? It might have fared better. Personally, I think it's worth full price, but I'm from a time when 2D games were AAA.
