when you post millions of people saying they bought oot and tp for the art style alone, we can talk.

Nintendo changed Wind Waker 2 for Twilight Princess. Nintendo itself knew about it. No point in arguing the opposite.

Nintendo changed the artstyle for every 3d zelda, except MM because it used the same engine and assets. even tp is different from oot.

TP is not thatdifferent from OoT. It's a little bit darker, but still very similar to the models used in Smash Bros Melee for example.

Zelda was always marketed as a fantasy game, up until WW.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Anime is a cartoon. From Japan. There is no such thing as Japanese anime. Anime is always Japanese.

The Legend of Korra is a cartoon. From the US.

Besides, a lot of things in the Zelda trailer looked realistic, like the grass, shadows, lighting and the trees/foliage. Only the characters are clearly non-realistic.

Bolded: You don't say. -__-

If you take hentai for example, that's soo cartoon. xD

I posted the definition of cartoon. Take it as you will. But what you descrive as japanese cartoon (in fact, as cartoon in general, seeing that you make no distinctions between any of the different animation works), would fit under kodomo (your regular saturday morning animation), in Japan. Then you'd have other types of anime targetted at other types of audience (shounen, shojo, ecchi or even hentai).

But for you, animated drawings = cartoons. Gotcha.

I don't care about the sales if they make sufficient money to continue making the best games. As usual. As it will be forever.

If they have chosen that art style is because is the best for this game.

Questioning Nintendo is ridiculous.

I'm not talking to you.

I'm not social on this website.

Sorry for my english.

Bye.

I'm not talking to you. I'm not social on this website. Sorry.

I would love to see Nintendo make Zelda tech-demo for their next system with style like this, just to test reactions ;)

Comics, anime, hand drawn looks =/= cartoon look

Anime is Japanese cartoon. Legend of Korra is a cartoon yet looks like a Japanese anime.

Take the artstyle of any game that exists and turn it into a tv show and it would all be classified as cartoon. Does anyone even want to play a game that looks exactly like the real world? Not me at least.

cartoon is a form of two-dimensional illustrated visual art. While the specific definition has changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-realistic or semi-realistic drawing or painting intended for satirecaricature, or humor, or to the artistic style of such works. An artist who creates cartoons is called a cartoonist.[1]

Ok? Thanks.

Japanese Anime is... Japanese Anime. Just like Cartoon is one of the many different drawing and animation styles in the west, Japanime also has plenty of styles. If you call them all cartoons, you're mistaken.

Oh lordy not this debate again.

TP seems closer to SS than OoT, to me.

Indeed. And Family Guy is an anime. Gotcha.

I like how Borderlands is a "comic book, drawing style" but Skyward Sword is a straight up "cartoon".
Oh, this Zelda game doesn't look very realistic? CARTOON.

Seriously, the only cartoon style Zeldas are The Wind Waker and DS titles.
Maybe The Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures too.

Skyward Sword is NOTHING like a cartoon. Just because it's bright and colorful doesn't mean it is.
Also, I remember there being quite a lot of hype nearing its release.

Also, Zelda Wii U is nothing like a cartoon as much as its also nothing like Skyward Sword. It's a completely new artstyle that really doesn't look a lot like any previous Zelda. It's almost like a fusion of Skyward Sword (colors, characters), Twilight Princess (environment) and The Wind Waker (cel-shading).

Nah. Nah. Nah. It looks like drawings, so it's cartoon. -__-

Seriously though, the new Link looks like an anime character. Not like a toon.

I honestly think it's due to budget. Since Yamauchi, outside of a few small examples, development has been extremely consevative. They don't want to take risks with their money.

The difference between the 2011 Zelda and the 2014 Zelda is millions and millions of dollars. The same goes for Mario. A brand new, super epic Mario 64 part 2 would cost alot more to make than what we got instead which was basically a port of a 3DS game with HD graphics and a few gameplay tweaks.

Not only that, but it's also easier to animate and draw. But you are right, it is mainly due to budget/development. The thing is.. I wish Nintendo would risk it anyway, because the sales would more than make up for it. Super Mario 64 2 would've got people mega hyped for the Wii U... and sold double what 3D World has sold and would have gotten many people on board, including me. I have played 3D World, liked it, but it didn't make me want to purchase a Wii U at all.

I am so disappointed by the new art style.

As usual the minority is the loudest. I'm happy with the poll results, very happy with the new art style. We've got enough 'realistic' western fantasy.

What's realistic about TP's style anyway, it's just a slightly darker cartoon.
