God forbid Nintendo tries something different for once with their franchises!

The survival of the company is more important than Aonuma's whims.

This is the GameCube we are talking about, so it's not like a darker Zelda would have sold THAT much more than Wind Waker.

It's all part of it; one of many serious blows that have combined to lead Nintendo up to where they are today. The series and hence Nintendo would be in a stronger position without a fractured fanbase.

Proof Zelda is supposed to be realistic:

Zelda was NOT meant for this kind of art style. PLEASE GO BACK NINTENDO TO THE WII U DEMO. Could you imagine Metroid with cel shaded graphics? NO.

Splitting the fanbase like this was a terrible move. Zelda would be a much more powerful franchise today if they hadn't make art style into an issue. Which it wasn't before Wind Waker.

Whiny gamers made Wind Waker's art-style into an issue..

Um when the cel shaded graphics were first shown even the gaming media thought it was a joke.... not just "whiny" gamers. If they made Super Mario into realistic graphics would complaining about it be whiny? No.

This.

That thing they showed at that E3 years ago was pure bs, it was CGi and you will never see anything like that in wiiU

False.

You could change the camera angle and lighting on the fly to prove it was actually running in real time.

the only people who though that was cgi were the ones used to ps360 graphics. and the zelda for wii u far surpasses the tech demo anyway.

It has a broader scope than the tech demo, but at the cost of simplified lighting and textures.

True but you have to look at it from the Nintendo point of view. It will be more cost effective to go in the route of cel shade type graphical style and more likely to appeal to mainstream Japan, which while popular never really has latched onto the Zelda franchise like I'm sure the company wants given Zelda's status as the main non-Mario or Pokemon tent pole outside of their homeland.

While I can understand that line of thought, I still reckon they would be better off chasing the much larger Western market.

Neither of them
