Forums - Sales - X1 will never catch or match PS4 sales, it is a misfired product.

Lol at this thread. The analysis is based on hmmm gee 30% of last gen sales is something that can be pulled out of someone's ass for a prediction. Where is the methodology and analysis to support the definitive 30% of market share. Was a survey conducted for this? Fanboys really have no clue. I do like these predictions with hard figures though as it makes some posters look really foolish in say 5 years time. Seen this kind of thing many times before and look what happened. No one can be so sure with these things. I don't mind people making an informed prediction allowing for the notion that they could be wrong, but these brave, bold and sure predictions make people look ignorant.

I do remember the old days when people were predicting 30 million total sales for 360. Funny times how 7 or 8 months can dictate an entire generation of sales.

I think it will do better than the 360 :P

Eh... if you extrapolate the current sales trends out further, X1 sells decently well, but never as good as the 360. Even when Titanfall became the #1 selling game, X1 couldn't outpace the PS4. Certainly things can change, but the price cut is really the only thing that can do it -- and even that sort of blows up in MS's face.

It's not that it's necessarily a horrible console now, it just started out as one when unveiled and they've been too slow to right the ship at the expense of really annoying some early adopters. They've sent the message that if you don't like something about the X1 now (DRM, the price, the kinect, or whatever) , wait a little bit and they will change their mind. However many gamers and publishers aren't inclined to waiting too long.

And while the performance gap is narrowing, it's not narrowing fast enough to change the general assertion of the PS4 being the more powerful console.

MS's E3 was good, but the 'exclusives' gap is growing pretty wide between X1 and it's competition, even including Wii U.

The original kinect was an insanely good hardware catalyst for the 360 -- I'm not sure what MS could offer to match it.

IMO -- sometime in the next 10 years MS will decide Xbox is really to big  of a black hole for them financially and start strategically divesting from it. The brand value makes it sort of a 'too big to fail' type enterprise, but I think MS could get pretty creative on how to make a pretty penny getting out from under it.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

The thing is doing better then last gen is meaningless.  Its curret competitior is killing it.  There is nothing fine about whats going on.

2014 sales and overall.

PS4 3,738,051 (-15%) 8,152,324
XOne 1,503,415 (-51%) 4,577,077

There is absolutley nothing fine about that

try to remember, Xbox is not Playstation never was and is not right now.

That shows the PS4 killing a $499 Xbox One. The X1 is a stronger competitor at $399.

Lets check back a year from and see if things have changed any. If the situation looks the same, maybe we'll a $299 X1 by 2015 or 2016.

There is demand for X1 and it has great support. Achieving 360 numbers might still be feasible given Wii U is not a major competitor. It just won't happen at $499 or $399.

X1 has basically given PS4 a 6 month lead. We saw how well that worked for the 360, but Japan and the international audience at large isn't going to pull X1 like they did the PS3.

I don't know, I think microsoft can still pull it out (no pun here folks!). It's still pretty early, perceptions can shift. Especially if they are still shooting for a 10 year life cycle.

Biggest problem the xbox one had/has was their leadership team. Mattrick was a joke, he deserves to be at zynga, not head of xbox. He was nothing but a train wreck as the head of xbox and his leadership during a console transition can be considered nothing less than a nightmare.

However, Microsoft has done a lot to rectify the issues Mattrick left them. In time, with some big hitters like Halo, they can at least pull even in NA and UK. Europe may be a lost cause. However, they could still make some gains in emerging markets like China, South America, etc. It's not a completely lost cause for Microsoft, I still think they can get close to what the 360 sold, 70 million or so...

Something that annoys me is people keep saying "I don't know, I wouldn't count MS out yet!" and then they give no reason for why we shouldn't.  I am not singling you out, and I am not necessarily saying we should 100% forget Xbox already, but seriously why shouldn't we.

Let's have this discussion people!  Forget marking BS from both sides!  The Xbox One is a little more than half as strong as the PS4, MS has way fewer first party studios and IP's than Sony, and the Playstation brand has more staying power.  How in the hell could MS dig themeselves out of this hole?

Did you even read my post?  I gave reasons why I said what I said.

also, if my comment annoys you, how would you feel if somebody told you "im not saying we should forget about a product, but seriously why shouldnt we?"

...so your not saying we ahould forget about, but we seriously should forget about it?

Come one lets check jan then feb then ohh march X1 will kill the PS4 in march.  Remember ?

There was neevr great demend or X1, i walked in a store and grabbed in in its second month.  PS4 was sold out here for many months after the holidays.  Lets not pretend X1 is in some great demend.

Given history and current status of the market.  We have a pretty very good idea.

Yahh PS4 will come to a halt LOL, guess peopel need to really streatch the imiganation far to come up with how X1 will do well.  Maybe a terrorost attack on PS4 factories lol.

X1 is doing well.

Achieving the success of the 360 would be fantastic. The Xbox 360 is the 5th best selling home console ever and its still relevant.

Nobody expects an attack at PS4 factories. But at the rate things are going its fair to wonder how Sony's financial situation could impact Playstation.

Wishful thinking, while it's kind of immature to hope millions of people lose their jobs because of a piece of plastic, the fact that Sony's finacial situation is improving means that in the past decade this is more or less likely a time for finacial situation impacting anything worthwhile, the least likely would be pre2006.

If anything, its affecting Sony's manufacturing if we are speculating.

This is my prediction.

13 Xbox One (XOne) 34,000,000 11,000,000 1,000,000 4,000,000 50,000,000

No its not doing well.  In no business in no makret is your competitor outselling you 3-1 for the year called doing well.

It would be spun or sony as a whole Sony would be PS and a few other products.

You're being childish, calm down.

I'm not implying X1 has PS4 demand and it doesn't need it to sell as many units as the 360.

It really depends on how long this console generation last.  Right now though, X1 is on track to match the X360's sales from last generation.

Actually right now it is about !M ahead where the 360 was at same time in its first year.

People try and compair the X1 to the PS4 to show why its "doing so bad".  But the reality is that if you look at the Xbox One in a bubble, it is doing very healthy sales wise.  The XB 360 sold about 5.9M in its first full year (November-November), and curently Xbox One is on track to do the same if not better.

Now if you are tring to say that the Xbox One will never match/catch the PS4 in sales globably, then I think thats an easy prediction as not even the 360 was able to do that to the PS3 globally.  If you are just talking about NA though, I think you are underestimationg how strong the Xbox brand is in NA.

At price parity it will most likely sell about the same as PS4, but if they undercut the PS4 (I think they will) then I think they will outsell them in NA.
