Especially if they are still shooting for a 10 year life cycle. Biggest problem the xbox one had/has was their leadership team. Mattrick was a joke, he deserves to be at zynga, not head of xbox. He was nothing but a train wreck as the head of xbox and his leadership during a console transition can be considered nothing less than a nightmare. However, Microsoft has done a lot to rectify the issues Mattrick left them. In time, with some big hitters like Halo, they can at least pull even in NA and UK. Europe may be a lost cause. However, they could still make some gains in emerging markets like China, South America, etc. It's not a completely lost cause for Microsoft, I still think they can get close to what the 360 sold, 70 million or so... |
How though ? Mattrick may be gone but X1 is still a much a cluster fuck of failure he was a part of. Counting on heavy hitter to turn it around is unrelaistic, PS4 will have its own heavy hitters that will nullyfy any bump X1 gets. Given how badly PS4 is out sellng the X1 now, for it to hit 70m there would have to be massise market growth where PS4 passes 200m in sales.

You see, the problem here is you are looking at this from a console war mentality. Ps4 success doesnt neccessitate xone failure, or vice versa. A heavy hitter on ps4 wont suddenly make the xone less popular and cause it to sell less, it will just make the ps4 more popular and cause it to sell more. So heavy hitters on either system "nullyfying any bump" is silly, especially since I have never seen a heavy hitter on a rival system significantly impact other console sales.
Like I said, the gen is early. Microsoft is just recovering the Mattrick years. There is plenty of time for them to readapt, especially since they have new management. (Both at ceo and xbox division)
Also, ps4 maintaining a 70/30 sales ratio over the entire gen isnt some kind of given fact. If the xbox one gets some momentum, it could easily drop to a 60/40 ratio. Plus, Microsoft should pick up a couple of percentage points anyway when they actually release worldwide...
