Turn it in mate, going on a bit.

The so-called "former Nintendo fans" are the ones that write the most about Nintendo, it seems.

This article really doesn't say much of anything, however, aside from point out the bleedingly obvious.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo seems to be losing relevancy, even I'm not as interested in the company as I once was. I hope they take advantage of E3, though this is Nintendo so I wouldnt count on anything

the former nintendo fans will only critize nintendo products or services.

They will never be happy with their new products as they already already conditioned themselves that the "old" nintendo will never come back.

Most of them bought nintendo 64 and was happy about it, but skipped game cube and tried wii and was dissapointed.

It is funny most of the post start as "don't get me wrong i love nintendo..." or "i love nintendo, but..."   but but but but you will never be happy and just admit you already moved on to a different company, which is fine.

I like french fries from mcdonalds.

Considering how terrible 2013 was, I wouldn't doubt it but 2014 is looking to be much for brighter for Nintendo

You say you didn't like the wii because you saw it as a gimmick and there was a lot of shovelware.. Well I can tell you, the wii really is one of the best consoles ever made. It took gaming back to its roots and it had so many phenomenal titles. And if you're an RPG fan, the wii is a huge contender with the 360 in that department. The wii was a fantastic console.

As for the wii u, I get this thread is supposed to be about popularity, so I guess that is fitting because that really seems to be all anybody cares about; what's popular. But I still fail to see what it is that the ps4 is offering that makes it soooooo much better than the wii u. I don't think the great majority of people who "don't allow the wii u into the next gen conversation," as you say, would even be able to give an answer based off of experience rather than ignorance.

Indeed, the ps4 has gained many positive headlines as you have pointed out, but it will tell you right now, it's not because of the games they have been showing. I would agree with anybody who says ps4 will have some great games and I would even agree with people who bought a ps4 now because they believe it will have the best games in the future, but this ps4 praise is out of control and there is no way that the wii u is an inferior console just because of headlines, public opinion, and word of mouth, it's ridiculous. This hive minded attitude is going to cause developers and console manufacturers to be lazy and put more time into marketing than game creation.

The PlayStation 4 has done well over the past year, garnering plenty of positive headlines and word-of-mouth. Last year's ridiculous policies that Microsoft had to rescind (amazing how quickly people forget such events, though), the $599 starting price that forced consumers to buy Kinect, etc; it all contributed to the Xbox's lowered reputation heading into this new generation.

A good friend of mine has totally sworn off Nintendo. He's adamant about the fact that he'll never touch a Wii U and that Nintendo is dead. The dude spends night after night on the 360 playing online. Among that crowd, you won't hear nice things about the Wii U, much less Nintendo.

He still likes the games he played on the N64. In fact, he said he'd love to have portable N64 (to which I said, you know that's basically a DS/3DS right? because Zelda and Mario are there).

We've allowed a culture of Nintendo hatred and dismissal to percolate.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I love Nintendo like a relative, in that you're essentially obligated to love that person simply due to genetics. As Nintendo is the company that kicked off my lifelong love affair with video games, I will always love Nintendo, despite the fact that I haven't owned one of their consoles since the SNES.

Wait what!? You haven't owned a Nintendo console in FOUR generations!? Your a TERRIBLE relative and your "love" is just lip service!

i.e. whoever wrote that can't be taken seriously

spurge you hurt my feelings

to answer some of your questions...wii is not and gimick most people didnt even know that word existed if it wasnt for Kaz who called it first "gimick" and then well you know the rest of the story..

Nintendos hardcore base is around 15-20 million considering gamecube sales and that it was a console aimed at those kind of players.

Nintendo did a bad job with the Wii U because it was aime towards no one.. not the casual or hardcore player I would say towards IN-HOME MULTIPLAYER PLAYERS lol perfect example Nintendo Land and SM3D World and most casuals dont even know its a new console obviously..what they need to do is hit us with games and more games and thats it ,,if it doesnt work better luck next time.
