Shame many users who such a trait plague the Nintendo section like a virus. Thankfully the sheer repetition of users making long winded articles in this section that can be summed up as "I liked Nintendo, despite having NOTHING to show for it and could possibly be lying to save face, but they suck now, I don't like them, and never will!" makes it enjoyable to see the blatant lack of diversion to those who wish to reaffirm themselves of which act to never follow here.

It is indeed at it's lowest. Hating on Nintendo is cool nowadays but it's just how the world works.

We just have to go with the flow and buy whatever it's popular at the moment. I'll be getting a PS4 soon.

For me the difference between Nintendo and Sony for four generations is simple. Sony is predictable 90% of the time and gives me what I want. A powerful system with first and third party support from various genres, but especially JRPGs. The only time I ever doubted Sony was early days of PS3 and that system recovered spectacularly past few years.

In that same time span Nintendo have been very hit or miss catering to my desires. The N64 had mixed results, but the biggest downside was the lack of third parties and JRPGs. The Gamecube was a return to form and I loved that system, sadly the market did not. The Wii was the last thing I wanted, it was weak with an awkward control set up and lack of games I wanted. I felt like I was playing an inferior Gamecube and when possible preferred to use my GC controller.

It was clear Nintendo would not be profitable catering to me, and the Wii U sadly reinforces that fact. It is caught somewhere between Wii and N64 land with third party support and odd controller (when I get a Wii U will definitely get a "pro controller" with it). The affection and nostalgia is there despite this I do come back. I play Mario and Zelda and all because they still make great games. I've learned to make peace with that and will likely get a Wii U in 2015.

I think a lot of the people who say "I still love Nintendo" really don't, they just remember loving Nintendo and confuse that with their present feelings. It would probably be more true to say that many former Nintendo fans feel something closer to apathy than anything else.

The thing with Nintendo's popularity isn't so much that they lost it, it's that they surrendered it without a fight. That probably caused a bit of resentment with former fans. Gaming was growing in different directions and a lot of people looked back at Nintendo, wondering if they would expand, too, but Nintendo did not follow. They let those fans drift away.

the ps3 didnt deliver with jrpgs and its looking like ps4 is going to be even worse. the wii, on the other hand, had a lot of jrpgs and a lot of japanese inspired games in general. you were either unable to embrace the new control style (which is a shame, really), or you didnt bother to look and see if there were any games you wanted to play. either way you missed out big time. and the graphics really arent that bad at all. 

Don't count out Nintendo just yet.

Nintendo really needs to push hard into new studios, expanding existing ones and do more 12-15 games.

because there are people who still think Nintendo is kiddie and MOST teenagers don't care about them, UNLESS its a handheld.
