I don't mean in the war, they're done there, no way they come close to Sony, and Microsoft will probably beat them as well.

I mean they may be able to salvage something, 30 million sales should be considered a success at this point and I think it's possible.

30 Million sales is impossible. It's too late.

That's my whole argument for this. And it works.

actually, 30 million sales is not impossible. all they have to do is sell 24 more million and they got to 30 miillion.

Unless Miyamoto's new IP is a killer app, or Zelda is similar to Twilight Princess, another 24 million isn't likely.

I have just gotten on this board, but it seems to me that the op is overly dramatic

Welcome to VGC (which is meant as both a sarcastic "yes, you will come to find that overly-dramatic OPs are common here", and as a heartfelt "welcome.")

You'll know who to look for in terms of sensationalist thread titles soon enough...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

In terms of "ever", the answer is clearly no. The time leading up to the launch of the NES, Nintendo need to claim that the NES was a robot toy with Rob rather than a video game console in order to get the NES in stores. Know their are McDonald's Happy Meal toys that come with the Nintendo themed toys. Pokemon has become a gateway game for JRPGs in North America, which has lead its yearly releases to surpass 10 million in sales.

The issue at hand is not that Nintendo is dying, it is that console gaming is dying and PC game is thriving. We are seeing the "second video game crash", only this time it is PCs and not arcades that are providing a better experience at a cheaper price.

Games I have Finished

Its been the lowest since the Playstation & PS2. It's been a long road to recovery for Nintendo. The Wii gave showed that it can be done. The Wii U will aid in that recovery.

Unfortunately Nintendo have been on a downward spiral with gamers since the N64 used cartridges instead of CDs.

The Wii was a one off fluke that drew in the casuals but left a horrible taste in old Nintendo fans mouths. As soon as the Wii U was announced, I knew it was going to fail. The inferior specs, the attempted gimmick for the second generation in a row, the lack of a killer title at launch, the confusion in the name, the poor excuse for an online system...... It all adds up to a spectacular failure.

Don't get me wrong. I love Nintendo's games, I'll be buying a Wii U next week just for Mario Kart and Wind Waker HD, but with the rest of the problems the Wii U has, it's just not worth it to a lot of people considering the lack of 3rd party support due to the extremely under powered hardware.

Nintendo need a major re-branding if they are going to continue in the video game business.

You act like selling 24 Million Wii Us is not that hard. The first 6 Million were hard enough.

the first six million wasnt hard at all.. it was inevitable. 24 million more isnt inevitable, but all nitnendo has to do is get off their asses and advertise the damn thing.

His love for Nintendo must have blinded him from knowing that Sonic and Solid Snake aren't Nintendo characters.

For me the difference between Nintendo and Sony for four generations is simple. Sony is predictable 90% of the time and gives me what I want. A powerful system with first and third party support from various genres, but especially JRPGs. The only time I ever doubted Sony was early days of PS3 and that system recovered spectacularly past few years.

In that same time span Nintendo have been very hit or miss catering to my desires. The N64 had mixed results, but the biggest downside was the lack of third parties and JRPGs. The Gamecube was a return to form and I loved that system, sadly the market did not. The Wii was the last thing I wanted, it was weak with an awkward control set up and lack of games I wanted. I felt like I was playing an inferior Gamecube and when possible preferred to use my GC controller.

It was clear Nintendo would not be profitable catering to me, and the Wii U sadly reinforces that fact. It is caught somewhere between Wii and N64 land with third party support and odd controller (when I get a Wii U will definitely get a "pro controller" with it). The affection and nostalgia is there despite this I do come back. I play Mario and Zelda and all because they still make great games. I've learned to make peace with that and will likely get a Wii U in 2015.

the ps3 didnt deliver with jrpgs and its looking like ps4 is going to be even worse. the wii, on the other hand, had a lot of jrpgs and a lot of japanese inspired games in general. you were either unable to embrace the new control style (which is a shame, really), or you didnt bother to look and see if there were any games you wanted to play. either way you missed out big time. and the graphics really arent that bad at all.

Not only that, but almost all of the RPGs worthy of your time can either be played with a Classic Controller or don't even use motion controls and can use the Wiimote + Nunchuk like a regular controller. Xenoblade, The Last Story, Muramasa, Rune Factory: I've played these within the past two years with a Wiimote and didn't waggle my wrist ever. Arc Rise Fantasia is CCP compatible, meaning it probably doesn't use motion controls. Fire Emblem: Radian Dawn doesn't use motion controls. Indeed Augen, you've missed out on a pile of good games that never even required you to wave your hand even once.

I really think that the Wii U problem is the name.

I really don't understand what the U stand for.

They could have called it Super Wii or Wii 2.

Wii U is more suitable name for a peripheral.

Because the name is so similar to Wii a lot of people didn't buy the console.

They were sure it's a peripheral like Wii Fit.

Nintendo should make sure in their new console to choose a good name.

This is the first thing a company should do when they release a new console.

Do like the Frozen Song.

Let IT GOOOOOOOOOO!! :D
