Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Gamepad is a fantastic idea and gaming controller.

It is awesome. Nintendo didn't show people why it was awesome and a lot of people decided from the beginning that they wouldn't like it, anyway. Then there are others that make up stuff about it that's totally false. It all combined to kill the Pad before it ever got started. Oh well.

So.. you narrowed it down to two outcomes. Wii U or a console with beefy specs that's sold at a loss.

Why couldn't Nintendo put out Wii 2? That scenario wouldn't have supported your claims though, would it?

Wii U specs, Wii motes and no gamepad for 250 dollars wouldn't be sold at loss.

It also probably wouldn't sell. The Wii crowd doesn't need to pay $250 for a Wii when they have a Wii already. The visuals wouldn't impress them the way motion control did.

But anyways, I like using the gamepad. Actually, currently here in my college dorm I don't even have a TV to play on! There's not really much space and I figured with limited time I shouldn't buy one. A few other guys do, and we'll hook up the Wii or Xbox and play some games from time to time, but I still am able to just sit anywhere in my room and play WiiU with no concern for if it bothers my roommate, no more conspicuously than if I was on my phone or my DS. It's very comfortable to hold, the controls are in pretty much all the right places and feel solid,  and keeps the game very personal to me. I'm a big handheld gamer, anyway. I only wish it were higher resolution.

Once I'm at home over the summer I intend to be using more of its unique features as a second screen or for asymmetric play.

I hope this is a joke thread.

You're a joke.

It's decent, it's comfortable to hold and the buttons all work great. But whenever I have the chance I swap it with a Wii mote or Classic controllers, I found especially with games like Mario 3D World, after some time of playing it becomes increasingly uncomfortable to play with such a large controller.

I also don't have much of a reason to use the screen since my TV is right behind me.

I used it in the store and thought it was really annoying, hate looking down for a minimap or the like when Im playing on the big screen. It feels nice in the hands but the lcd is of bad quality if you've helt a 5" smartphone or Vita in your hands. Also I dont like its short battery life and its ac adapter instead of usb charging.

Any controller can feel annoying if you only try it out in store.

Having the map by your hands certainly is different, but for Wind Waker HD and Need For Speed, I actually found having the map offscreen/on the GamePad was really nice. Less clutter and fewer interruptions during gameplay

It does have a micro USB charging port...

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Not to some.

Its clunky to wide apart, looking at tv then down and up gets annoying fast. The screen quality on it is weak, especially given what we are used to on cell phones. Its battery life is anemic.

Comes of as a convoluted idea that was never truly though out. It has added nothing to my gaming while it was forced on me, id have much preferred a cheaper Wiiu with a pro controller as an option.

You cant even buy one as a second controller screams of them not knowing what exactly is the pointy of it.

Simply it was unnecessary, and have yet to see a game that justifies its existence.

I couln't disagree more with that last sentence. Did you:

a) try Nintendoland?

b) had friends to play with?

This is as much of a blast to play that it was with wii sport when the wii came out.

a no

b single player gamer here, just does not work for me.  pro controller would be so much better for my lay and play techniques.

Yahh and no pad is no wiimote and no game is to it as sports was to wiimote.

As a concept, to enable better/new game designing, the Wii U had great potential. As a controller, not so much.

The ergonomics alone are not very good. The arrangement of the controls are made too vertical in an effort to accommodate the screen, and the result, compared to other controllers, is fairly uncomfortable. It's difficult, if not impossible, to reach all of the controls without moving your grip, which for me is a pretty big strike against it.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Why do many of you continue to assume that the casual crowd wouldn't buy an upgraded Wii? Software is key. New IPs make a difference.

The triggers are awful, but porn on the GamePad more than makes up for it!

You're a joke.

You are an idiot.

What you and a lot of other Nintendo fans need to grasp is that the Wii could absorb GameCube DNA without its death sentence being signed immediately. It doesn't and can't work vice versa. Therefore it comes down to a simple choice for Nintendo fans: You either support the Wii direction (and secure a future for the games you like) or you desperately try to think of a workaround, so that Nintendo doesn't have to make a Wii. But no matter what, the latter will always result in failure.

That unhealthy love for the Wii U and 3DS makes people believe that there's no space in the market anymore for a Nintendo home console and a Nintendo handheld, but all those two failures mean is that the GameCube DNA will never work. Yes, the 3DS is full of GC DNA, in case you haven't noticed. Nintendo can easily make more home consoles and handhelds, they just have to make sure that the hardware doesn't suck so hard that it drags everything down with it. When you look at Nintendo's updated shipments for Mario Kart 7 and New Super Mario Bros. 2, those two games have barely moved during the last year. This shows that the people who buy the 3DS are those who embrace Nintendo's N64/GC ways, and the only reason why the 3DS doesn't sell as low as the two aforementioned home consoles is that it doesn't face a PS1/PS2. If the 3DS reached the usual Nintendo handheld audience, then its "evergreens" would be actual evergreens.

isnt the 3ds on track to outsell GBA? or am I wrong on that?
