I've never seen the Netflix paywall as a big deal, most Xbox owners already have an active gold subscription anyway for multiplayer gaming, and those that don't keep gold active are mostly multiplat gamers that have other consoles to watch Netflix on anyway. Regardless though, it's a smart idea since it will help change people's perception of MS as this greedy company.

I hope they remove gamertag changes from behind the paywall as well, I've been wanting to change my gamertag for awhile but I'm not going to pay $10 to do it. It costs MS next to nothing to change someone's gamertag, no reason that it should cost $10.

Phil is really filling this role as Xbox head nicely, way better than Matrick, the best Xbox head since Peter Moore.

Yeah it's not a bid deal, the only people who complain are fanboys. Don't get me wrong this will give them one less thing to bitch about, which at the end of the day is a good thing.

If you truly believe that then you aren't able to comprehend the current situation.

What current situation? The whole time Netflix has been on Xbox Live I've never seen any of my friends that use netflix complain about having to pay for Gold to use Netflix, why? because they pay for it anyway, If someone cares about Netflix that much then go buy a Roku or Apple TV or better yet hook your Computer up to a tv.

Would be nice, I have a feeling Phil Spencer will be enacting a lot of changes over the next few years.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

@puppysometin good one man, youre so right. Watching netflix on xbox is such a better experience, please keep it behind paywall so we can still have such a superior experience. Please MS

RIP ps3, xbox360.

welcome home ps4 and X1

Good idea. Not everyone who owns an Xbox device has Xbox Live Gold, and those people shouldn't be prevented from using basic multimedia apps because they don't care about playing online multiplayer games.

Well, yeah in my view it is.

Really good to hear this from Phil. The Xbox Live pay wall is my only complaint about the Xbox brand.

I should've bolded what I was replying to. But you can't honestly believe that just because the people that you know that pay for gold, dont complain about netflix paywall, that such do not exist i.e paying for netflix is a nonissue, when deciding when to purchase XBLG. Or that all people who take offense to the paywall are fanboys.

Its an outdated practice that takes advantage of consumer ignorance and its indefensible. How can they call the One a Media Device when the most basic of online video features are inaccessible to those who don't pay the gate keeper first.

I understand your perspective, I truly do, I use my friends 360 for youtube all the time, and nobody really cared.

But there is no benifit to the consumer at all by making it inaccesible without gold.

The only people who benefit from making it free are  those who want to use the media features of the 360 or One without paying for multiplayer. But at least it would encourage people, especially casual consumers to buy the system.

At home we recently bought a smart TV, it does youtube, netflix, the works, my parents care about the media but don't give a damn about multiplayer, why should they pay for multiplayer just to be able to use netflix on the ONE media device, its way more convinent and costeffective to just use smart tvs.

And people at Xbox are scratching their heads wondering why the casuals aren't eating up their supply. Nobody wants to pay for subscriptions any more, even with my PS4 I won't think of buying PS+ till summer anyway. Furthermore, nobody likes multiple subscriptions.

I'm not saying it's not an issue, it's just that it's such a minor one that some people try to make a big deal out of it. If they take apps from behind the paywall then great, but I'm willing to bet that it's a small minority on Xbox that care about Netflix being behind a paywall.

Thank God some one in charge at Microsoft finally gets it. Really liking this guy. His next big move will be to free XO from kinect and start this console gaining real steam with a sub 400 price. Hard work to un-matrick this console but he is making some great initial impressions.

Great move... I think it is ridiculous to pay two times to use Netflix.

Phil just might be the first non-suit to run Xbox.  Interesting indeed...
