You mean like, they charged their users for basic services that are free everywhere else, used Peer to Peer in many games and still charged as if they were hosting games in private servers, or that compared to steam which is free, it lacks in comunity features, or that is does not gives away good free games (at least not as good as PSN+ has)? nah, i just loled, the only thing could be worst right now in terms of value for your money is nintendo's network but that is free so.
dd if = /dev/brain | tail -f | grep games | nc -lnvvp 80

If what you said really was a "joke", then you need to go back to comedy school. *throws tomato*

I should've bolded what I was replying to. But you can't honestly believe that just because the people that you know that pay for gold, dont complain about netflix paywall, that such do not exist i.e paying for netflix is a nonissue, when deciding when to purchase XBLG. Or that all people who take offense to the paywall are fanboys. Its an outdated practice that takes advantage of consumer ignorance and its indefensible. How can they call the One a Media Device when the most basic of online video features are inaccessible to those who don't pay the gate keeper first. I understand your perspective, I truly do, I use my friends 360 for youtube all the time, and nobody really cared. But there is no benifit to the consumer at all by making it inaccesible without gold. The only people who benefit from making it free are those who want to use the media features of the 360 or One without paying for multiplayer. But at least it would encourage people, especially casual consumers to buy the system. At home we recently bought a smart TV, it does youtube, netflix, the works, my parents care about the media but don't give a damn about multiplayer, why should they pay for multiplayer just to be able to use netflix on the ONE media device, its way more convinent and costeffective to just use smart tvs. And people at Xbox are scratching their heads wondering why the casuals aren't eating up their supply. Nobody wants to pay for subscriptions any more, even with my PS4 I won't think of buying PS+ till summer anyway. Furthermore, nobody likes multiple subscriptions. |
Anecdote, but a friend of mine just went off to grad school. He was piggy backing off another friend's XBL, so at the time, it didn't matter. But at grad school, his apt building doesn't have anything subsidized by tuition (electric, water, cable, etc.). All those bills are separate. They (his roommate and him) don't want to pay extra for things they don't need, so they aren't getting cable. I said they can use my Hulu account for the 360 he has. But he doesn't have XBL because, I mean...he's in grad school. Doesn't need to be playing video games all the time and subsequentally, doesn't need XBL. Well...no XBL, no Hulu.
Everyone in this thread saying "people have XBL/PS+ already. So it shouldn't matter" should just be ignored. It's the principle behind it. #1 PS+ isn't required for apps, so that service shouldn't even be brought into the conversation. #2 apps being behind a paywall does affect people, whether you want to believe it or not. "If it's such a big deal, you should just get a Roku or Apple TV"....well, you're telling people to spend more money on something that should be free to access? Ok. For people who "pay for Live anyway" who "don't complain", good for you. But some people don't "pay for Live anyway" and things that should be free to use, aren't, because you need Live. Why should you have to pay to use a web browser? That's like paying your cable bill, then having to pay a separate party to watch the channels. I bet when you look at it that way, you see how dumb the practice is. But this is Xbox we're talking about. Gotta put the blinders on.....

That is a step in the right direction and all, but Apps is one thing. Now what about games running on developers own servers?
