Software will "double the performance" of fixed hardware!?

Means the software was shiiiiiiit before this. No other explanation =P Anyways, we all know this is just more PR talk.

I'm actually pretty sure the software was crap.  It was pretty obvious that microsoft wasnt ready to reveal the xbox when they did.  I think they thought they had another year before sony released and were scrambling to get everything in order at the last minute.  I mean, crap, the system still hasnt launched outside of the 13 launch countries yet...

The X1 and PS4 are built almost exactly like PCs. MS has been developing PC sdk for how long now!? You are grasping at straws - this simply isn't true. A new SDK makes things easier, but it doesn't allow you to get more out of hardware than before.

Games will obviously be better in the future - things always improve with time on consoles, but there's never been such a clamour for hailing an SDK as a saviour as there is now. You should give that a thought.

This is nonsense.

Sure. In specific scenarios where the CPU is the bottleneck which is about 0% of games currently.

I would have serious doubts about this even if Microsoft themselves had said it, so I'm definitely not gonna believe a guy from a studio I've never heard of.

Why would Microsoft keep this quiet? Why, when they were getting ripped apart on forums and gaming websites after their reveal, when they are getting further and further behind PS4 in sales and having to cut prices and practically give away their biggest exclusive of the year, have they not come out with this news? Seems strange to me.

Your setting yourself up for disaster with that line right there.

Care to enlighten me as to why?

cause the easiest counter to that claim would be the anonymous devs/obscurish devs that started publizing the ps4's hw superiority in the first place

This remembers me a little what happened with the "hidden power" of the cell processor. The difference is that Microsoft is not like Sony and they normally say the truth.

Hence why this gen Microsoft has vowed to be honest with consumers. ;)

He's talking about multi-core programming which is notoriously hard. Maybe direct x12 allows devs to take advantage of multiple cores and that will lead to an increase in theory, but double?! Not buying it, especially from someone who's company never developed an Xbox game. Forgive me if I'm wrong but Stardock are PC devs.

I would love to be proven wrong, but I feel like I'm being lied to. I hate being lied to.

eSRAM, cloud, 2nd gpu,...now an API. Please... Maybe it would be a good start to understand what's really an API cause it doesn't seem anyone really got it.

It's a dev guys it must be true!

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I will believe it when I see the performance double. But to be honest it doesn't really matter to me, I am quite happy with the X1 as it is. (minus a few bugs/annoyances with kinect.)

Totally agree, instead of taling about doubling performance, show us more games. I like my X1 so just give me some more software MS! :)

It's not a claim, it's fact, I've never heard of him or his team before.  The PS4 has more powerful hardware and that is also a fact.  I have doubts about how genuine this story is but if it turns out to be true then it will also be fact, but I think it's pretty reasonable to have doubts about what Microsoft say about these kind of things.

Honestly if it doesn't happen soon then the damage will already be done, X1 is gonna get the stigma of having inferior multiplats and people will always just assume PS4 has surperior multiplats and buy them on there, similar thing happened to PS3, but it wasn't as bad.

Several games that are multi-play are already being announced with 1080p parity..  The late deveopment kits and buggy software were to blame for MUCH of the "720p" hoopla...  These 2 things have mostly been resolved.  So EVEN without DX12 there will already be less of the whole 720p vs 1080p issues.

DX12 will likely not double anything..  but it will likely allow a smaller gap in game performance.  PS4 will always have the hardware advantage. But the PS3 always had the hardware advantage and we only really saw it in Exclusive titles.
