Double the API performance doesn't mean double the system performance. |
Hmmm...Interesting read. Thank you for this.

That seems to be the generic reply to my posts these days on this forum. :P

I checked the Neogaf thread and the first thing I saw was my comment, almost word for word. At least give some credit, man.

Take it as a sign of flattery that someone thought you were incredibly witty. :)

I also dont agree its x2. Thats exagrated. But along with Phils comment its like PDZ - Halo 4 there is a significant performance gin using DX12. This isnt some secret sauce, like some chip not switched on inside the xbo one. This is a PROVEN enhancement to the direct access and control over the core of the hardware. When all is sai and done this is good news for XB1 in terms of great story visuals and cinematic gameplay. There is a dfinite performance gain using DX12 over 11 for Xbox One. First party tites will be benefit mostly as they only have to build one version of the game. But 3rd parties probably for a couple of years will still choose the easier option of DX11. Some like Ubisoft or EA wit more funds may dabble into DX12 though. But I expect Forza 6, Halo 5 etc to be sporting the better DX12. Maybe even Quantum Break will have beeen shifted over to DX12. |
If we take DX12 out of the equation for a moment, both consoles will see an improvement in their games over the coming years. Why because things will get better optimised, rushing the first batch of games out for both companies has meant comprimises had to be made. The next batch of games on both consoles will be better... and then the next will see an improvement. It's because the toolchain and tools improve over time.
Ok so now we know that things improve, let me just say that the improvements that are found in DX12 will probably as others have said will equate to 5-10%, but you know what, Sony's console will also see a similar improvement as they move more processes onto the GPU.
So what I am saying is, ignore the PR crap... as it is PR crap, they know the consoles games will get better, they are lumping DX12 into that getting better...., both consoles will see improvements.
*BUT* the good thing is it will mean that more resources can be applied to making the XBO have a higher resolution or run at a better FPS.. not necessarily 1080p in all cases, but it will certainly mean games that might be 729 could be moved upto 900p etc. The problem will still exist that the PS4 will be able to handle more effects or better visuals.
Mostly this is PR BS mixed in with smoke and mirrors... the good news is regardless of if a company moves over to DX12 or uses DX11, the games will improve...

Have you even tried "that other one?" It's not good to make fun of the OUYA without ever trying it. |
Baha ha ha!
I wonder if it will get more love when it's the Amazon Ouya?
