Don't forget us Virtual Boy owners. We literally get nothing.

Common sense: over 99% of Wii owners interested in a game like Titanfall will have another system much better suited for that game. So just ditch the Wii numbers in the total. 95/180 = 52.8% won't have access to TF (unless they have access to a PC) |
That's fair.
The reason I limited it to Consoles cause the PCs effect is to hard to track, especially with it not being on Steam.
From the VGC last week TF did about a mil on the X1,
Even if the 4 million ppl who have X1 also had PS4s thats still 2.6 million without or a little over a third of ps4's base right now. I guesstimated 3/4 for ps4, that means that 3/12 or 1/4 of 2million which is 250500k which is still more than twicefive times the pc numbers and thats disregarding 0.6 million other people.

It all depends on how much MS paid EA for Titanfall, my guess is alot more than $10 million, plus who knows how much for all the bundles, I mean we're talking about the MS that paid $400 million for a freaking NFL deal here, who's to say they didn't pay $60 million or something for this game?
But overall EA more likely than not would have made more money from releasing the game on PS3/4 as well and since they know this now that means Titanfall 2s exclusivity will cost alot more than exclusivity for the first game.
I doubt MS will bother buying exclusivity rights for Titanfall 2.

Even if every single person with an x360 or x1 had another console. 85*2 = 170
170/280 = 60.7
thats still 40% of the market that its not addessing.
Also to all those, who lists stuff like DS or Atari 2600
I'm limiting it to Gens that Titanfall is actually releasing on that means
all 7th gen and 8th gen consoles, no handhelds. Thats why I included the Wii.

That's also true, but as a multiplayer only game the topic of Legs gets brought up constantly.
Lets look at its LTD at 2015, if TitanFall 2 doesn't come out by then, then 400 million is going to look like chump change.

Who says that they don't invest in own studios since a while? But as long as the userbase of the new gen is still so small it isn't that expensive to get third party exclusives.
It also makes no sense to have too many own studios since releasing too many games does only kill sales of every single game. I think Microsoft will have a pretty healthy amount of own games this gen. More would be always great for us players but It has to make sense for the company to have thousands of employees working on games and if they release so many games that people have to decide which one they can buy it will simply cost too much to pay so many salaries.
And not every third party exclusivity has to be that expensive. If you buy a game which would also come to other consoles it is but if you give a developer money to make a game for you (like Killer Instinct) it isn't that expensive and makes as much sense as having own studios. Or do you think it would have been so much cheaper for Microsoft to open an own studio to work on Killer Instinct? And Dead Rising was probably also not much more expensive as if they would have to have an own studio for it.
And the Titanfall Bundle doesn't have a retail copy, it has a digital code.
Phil Spencer also explained once in a Podcast that it isn't so simple to say that it is so much cheaper to have more own studios as to pay some third party developers from time to time. People really underestimate what it costs to have own employees. It's not only the salaries you have to pay. Why do you think Nintendo doesn't simply open 10 more studios to compensate all the thrid party games they miss?
Your calculation lacks a lot of factors so that I don't even try to argue about that. Not to forget that you simply can't do a calculation like that in 5 minutes or even 5 days.

Yes, but TitanFall is 59.99 Retail, even disregarding physical copies, MS is still paying EA for the digital copies that the bundles are made with.
Furthermore, TitanFall is Cross Gen, So it wouldn't just be no ps4 it would be no ps3 as well. Thats 95 million consoles right there.
If MS outright bought Respawn, then the problem changes and it becomes significantly cheaper. The loss of the competitors is irrelevant. But since EA is a multiplat developer, it doesn't make financial sense to invest in selling more XB1s.
If MS owns the studios then the costs of ignoring other platforms dissapears, cause they can't do it.

like I added to my first post
"Your calculation lacks a lot of factors so that I don't even try to argue about that. Not to forget that you simply can't do a calculation like that in 5 minutes or even 5 days."
But just to mention a few things:
1. Titanfall got a lot of free marketing only because it is exlusive on Microsoft platforms. We would have never seen hundreds of Titanfall threads in every forum if it would have been on every platform. This was worth a lot but didn't cost anything.
2. Many people who can't buy it on their PS3 will simply buy it on their 360. Mentioning the Wii doesn't make any sense to me since even Ubisoft wouldn't release Titanfall on Wii but we talk about EA so that it wouldn't come to Wii U even without Microsoft. PS3 and PS4 are the only platforms the game didn't release on because of Microsoft.
3. Not sure what you think how much Microsoft would invest in a game like Titanfall if they would develop it themselves but it will be a lot and having one more studio for a game like that would cost even more as only the development of the game + marketing. They can give all that money to EA. It is probably more as many think so that EA got a lot and Microsoft can still live with the costs.
4. It really makes no sense to talk so much about so many things since we have absolutely no clue about so many data these companies gained the last years or even decades to calculate with real numbers and if some decisions make sense or not.
