Forums - Sales - Math: 70% of the Console Market Won't have access to TitanFall

Microsoft surely paid a lot of money to get the game as an exclusive. Without Titanfall, the X1 would be dead.

Most likely they did pay some money.

But I think everyone is pointing to the wrong greed here.

EA wanted the Xbox One DRM to be the standard for home consoles. Like really really bad. You seen them back Sony and the PS3 when Sony had the Online Pass hard on. And they backed Microsoft for that console DRM

The greed wasn't just up front moneyz, but the elimination of used game resells

Also who thought the Xbox One would win out this gen??? What data could anyone seen that was even somewhat legit? I know predictions can go either way. But to even consider Xbox One beating PS or Nintendo, when it has never happened in the previous 2 gens, and Xbox only doing well in the USA is very very wishful thinking

So you come back to the only reasonable answer. Xbox One and it's planned DRM made EA happy.

EA is a very funny company imo.

Sony had no problem with used games, they just demanded ten dollars for the online portion of the games like EA did. They never took it any further than that.

My outlook on it is different then yours I guess

Sony not willing to go further and piss off consumers is not the same thing as liking the reselling of used games

Well.. when it comes to that you they testified before everyone at E3 and on Gametrailers that they had no issues with used games. It was EA and Microsoft and when those two put their heads together its tough to say that all gamers win.

Can someone tell me how much money did Naughty Dog lose by not publishing the Last of Us on Xbox 360? Cuz basically the same theory applies there, right?

No, Last of US is published by Sony. TitanFall is published by EA. Its not the same theory. Had MS owned Respawn then it would be comparable. Sony also owns TLOU franchise, while MS only owns the rights for the first TitanFall on console. The point of this thread is not simply how much money was lost by TitanFall being exclusive, because this can literally apply to every exclusive, but how the amount of money lost will affect how much Xbox will pay for 3rd party exclusives in the future, and whether or not it would be cheaper to buy/develop studios then paying for 3rd party exclusives.

Respawn kind of did. For TitanFall, they claimed that they wanted to limit it to one platform and on the Xb1 they believed they would be more successful it being an fps and all. Furthermore, 360 outselling PS3 in US for a while made it reasonable that the X1 would hold the trend of US domination which was TItanFall's target market.

silly calculation.
i can still buy the game, without owning a xbox one.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

So, 70% of console gamers don't understand the principle of obtaining a video game system. No wonder the industry is going down hill.

Naughty Dog has been a Sony partner/owned company for quite a longgggggggg time. They were partners in the 90's and their vision for gaming is kind of intertwined. What Naughty Dog does represents Sony.
