Ya cant beat DK64 I could pop that one in anytime.

TF was good but it was really hard. (I played through it co op)


they need to make a 3d DK then i could judge i like them better.

They're about even I'd say, with their own distinct flavours and qualities.

Overall, I do consider Retro a better studio than Rare though, simply because Retro's games all range from good to great, while Rare had a lot of gems in the 90s, but hasn't made a properly good game since the 5th gen.

Tropical Freeze is tied with the first DKC in my opinion, it is just that good. The best thing about DKC2 was its soundtrack, and 3 I only like for nostalgic reasons.
The newer games I found to be more fun, but man I miss King K. Rool.

The original trilogy has better atmosphere, music and cooler enemies. Being able to control the second character also gave the games more depth than in TF, where they simply function as upgrades to Donke Kong. I also miss the animal buddies.
DKC 2 was perfect, Retro's games feel different but they are still pretty great.

Bought and finished DK:TF. It's nowhere near as good as DKC or DKC2. The third one....maybe.

How dos that give it any more depth? The second character represents a separate skill set, the only difference is that instead of having to switch like in the SNES trilogy, in DKCR/TF you can use both skillsets simultaneously. It's just a more convenient manifestation of the same fundamental mechanic.

No. While Retro has done a good job staying true to Rare they lack the variety that DKC is known for whether it be animal buddies or scenery ranging from hive minds, carnivals, briars, swamps, and the list goes on. Each world felt like a new world rather than just another jungle.

Both have done great though. Rare's DKC was better though

I guess I mean that while playing as Dixie in DKC 2 you are able to do so much more than you are when she is riding DK's back in TF.

If it were re-released on 3DS, I'd never need another game.  So much content!
