Absolutely.

The Rare games are great, but feel dated and have many frustrating elements that keep them from being exceptional.
DKCR, on the other hand, was almost flawless. 2D platforming at its best.

Looks like you're the 1st to vote Retro. Like i said, I'm impressed with both, the SNES music is all kinds of winning, but david made a heck of an contribution to DKTF.

i agree with above posts though, that what Rare accomplished on the Snes was remarkable, and not even close to replicated. and....it had expresso!

I'm playing DKC2 for the first time and I gotta say, it feels really rewarding after completing a stage and reaching the next save point. Most modern games don't have that anymore.

Only played a little of DKCR so can't say much of that.

Nah.

I still enjoy Rareware's DK games more than Retro's.

But hey its better than the DK music games we got on the Gamecube >.>.

Are you kidding me, those were the best =D

TF = DKC2 > DKCR > DKC3 > DKC

Exactly! Modern games are designed for babies. You had to complete 3 levels in a row sometimes with just 5 lives to get to that next save in DKC2. That took skill and hard work. My wife still can't beat DKC2 but she destroys both Retros DK games.

Rare, nothing wrong with Retro, but Rare ones had that extra something. ANd having to shake the wiimote to roll left a sour taste in my mouth. Thank goodness for the 3ds version

I've still never played them. Perhaps I will when they start showing up on the eShop.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Donkey Kong 64 is still the best game in the series.

Damn straight

All five games are challenging and excellently designed. It's one of my favorite game series of all time. I'd rank said games like this...

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble!
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country Returns

Overall, I say Rare's are better, but that doesn't take away from Retro's.
