The Wii U does not simplify gaming, it is a 180 from what the Wii was. It makes gaming more hardcore and intuitive for the hardcore gamer. Non-gamers want simplicity. The Wii was simplicity at its finest. They didnt have to think. They just had to swing and have fun.

We're not taking units and multiplying by years. We're looking at how it has sold less than Gamecube life to date, and extrapolating that it will not sell much more than Gamecube.

Do you think the Gamecube never had games, or pricecuts or anything?

 

  • GC was cheaper than Wii U
  • GC hardware was fairly close to competition PS2 & Xbox, unlike WIi U which is not close to PS4 & XOne.
  • GC had good games, two original Zeldas, 3D Mario, Paper Mario, Smash Bros, Pikmin, Kart, Metroid, Soul Calibur 2, exclusive Resident Evil games, Final fantasy games, etc.
  • GC had more 3rd party support than Wii U, almost all mutliplats were on it and some exclusive or time limited on GC

Tell me again why Wii U is going to outsell it?  Because Wii did?

The Wii-U will probably not outsell the Gamecube, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the games it has.

If 6 million after a little more than a year guarantees 80+ million LTD, the PS4 will sell at least 320 million units LTD. Seems legit.

OT the OP is trolling or smoking that DMT, fact is there have been a few "heavy" hitters released. 2d mario, Wii fit, 3d mario DK just to name a few.

How do people come up with these? easily, the historical data. Wii U is performing 2/3 of the GC at the same time period. What is 2/3 of 22? ~15m if trend continues. Now suppose trend doesnt continue and somehow Nintendo starts selling better. Well, making up lost ground over a year and a half after launch is too late. That means wii U needs to outsell the GC by 33% from here on out to even match the GC sales. (even if the Wii U sold 33% better it still wouldbt catch up to GC after two more years.) Its unlikly that it goes from .66 of GC sales to 1.33 of GC sales.

Heres some more for people who think it can match N64 numbers that I just thought of.

Nintendo is producing ~225k units a months. In order to match N64 it needs to start producing ~600k a month starting now. I suppose those people also think Sony can produce ~15m by March 31st too (hint they will only produce about 25% more. Not close to 300% more)
