Forums - Nintendo - Is it really Nintendo's fault that the U is selling poorly?

Will the Wii U outsell the GC?

Yes it's their fault starting with the architecture. They should have asked first to other companies before crafting a new console. Now MS and Sony have an easy to develope on x86 console and Nintendo has a PowerPC machine with very old hardware and a controller that is refused by most gamers

This is kind of a harsh opinion but very few people bought a Nintendo console last gen. Lot's of people however bought a Wiimote that came with a Nintendo console in the box. I think Nintendo never realized just how much the Wii's success was based on motion controls and that they were selling to a sea of people with no brand loyalty to Nintendo, who didn't love Nintendo games enough to change to a traditional controller to play them.

Seriously now?

Wii - 100.95M (I think everyone has came up with the consensus that this sold mostly to the casuals)

I believe the consensus is wrong, but that's for another discussion.

Wii U - 5.78M ( Which I think it trending lower than the GC)

Honestly, I don't think advertising or more games will actually help the Wii U sell. People are just getting tired of Nintendo systems, and I don't think they can do anything about it.

Nope. It always comes down to games, pricing, and marketing. The Wii U obviously just isn't a good value proposition for gamers. A far less
significant price advantage, weaker software support (few first-party games of note, an 8-month drought at the beginning of its life, and no
major third-party games that can't be bought on the PS3 or 360), and poor marketing are why the Wii U is struggling.

Nintendo has brought most of their problems on themselves. Little if anything of it is due to forces outside their control.

For what it's worth, I believe the Wii was largely bought by video game fans who also owned one other console, fans who felt burned when Nintendo's promises about the Wii never were delivered upon. This is probably also one of the Wii U's greatest problems - no one wants to be fooled twice.

Love how the OP doesnt consider casuals as people to fit his skewed logic.

Casuals are not faithful clients, you cant count on them long term, is like producing a boy band or one of those disney girls, the audience will consume it with obsesion and quickly move on, the problem is nintendo can produce the next Selena Gomez (Wii sports) as fast as disney can, so they moved on to a Justin Beiver (social network games/ smartphones). Had they maintained their Jazz (More metroid), Blues fanbase (F-zeros), they would have something to count on now.

If the Nintendo's consoles have been declining in sales consistently with the exception of the Wii, its indicative of a systematic failure across the board in how Nintendo manages it home console.
The problem is that Nintendo is still stuck somewhere between the 90s and the early 2000s. Nintendo fans like to argue that the reason Nintendo won't go bankrupt is because they allegedly have enough money to sit on their hands for the next 50 years. When in reality, they've been sitting on their hands since the Wii.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Nintendo has themselves to blame. They have failed to effectively market or otherwise capitalize on Wii U's primary capabilities, and now those capabilities feel more like liabilities keeping the console from being worth its current price.

No. The Wii was not purchased by people who owned other consoles largely. The third party sales definitely notes that they were mostly non-gamers children and womens games that sold the highest. Core third party sold terribly.

Who else? Dumb question, Next!
