I mean is it really? I just think Nintendo's consoles have became less wanted over the generation. They've sold less consoles each generation.

(According to VGChartz)

NES - 61.91M

SNES - 49.1M

N64 - 32.93M

GC - 21.74M

Wii - 100.95M (I think everyone has came up with the consensus that this sold mostly to the casuals)

Wii U - 5.78M ( Which I think it trending lower than the GC)

Honestly, I don't think advertising or more games will actually help the Wii U sell. People are just getting tired of Nintendo systems, and I don't think they can do anything about it.

No matter how you put it, it's nintendo's fault. "Yeah, but the other consoles are just more appealing!" you say. Well maybe they should have worked harder.

If people are getting tired of nintendo consoles, maybe they need to do something to revitalize their image. Maybe make good with third parties. Maybe try a new IP. Mario can still exist, but I think 4 mario games in a year is excessive. No matter what you say is the reason the wiiU is failing, it's still nintendo's fault, because they should have addressed those issues that were obviously there.

Nobody wants a heavy tablet that cannot even be used mobile and 5 year old, outdated hardware without any games, real online modes or 3rd party support, the Wii-U is a complete design failure and it is Nintendos fault.

But maybe the Wii U is replaced much sooner than everybody thinks by a new and more powerful version with real mobile game support. My interpretation of the recent 'Nintendo Fusion' rumors is that the fully backwards compatible system will be announced at this years E3.

I believe the consensus is wrong, but that's for another discussion.

Wii U - 5.78M ( Which I think it trending lower than the GC)

Honestly, I don't think advertising or more games will actually help the Wii U sell. People are just getting tired of Nintendo systems, and I don't think they can do anything about it.

Nope. It always comes down to games, pricing, and marketing. The Wii U obviously just isn't a good value proposition for gamers. A far less
significant price advantage, weaker software support (few first-party games of note, an 8-month drought at the beginning of its life, and no
major third-party games that can't be bought on the PS3 or 360), and poor marketing are why the Wii U is struggling.

Nintendo has brought most of their problems on themselves. Little if anything of it is due to forces outside their control.

For what it's worth, I believe the Wii was largely bought by video game fans who also owned one other console, fans who felt burned when Nintendo's promises about the Wii never were delivered upon. This is probably also one of the Wii U's greatest problems - no one wants to be fooled twice.

No. The Wii was not purchased by people who owned other consoles largely. The third party sales definitely notes that they were mostly non-gamers children and womens games that sold the highest. Core third party sold terribly.

The Wii was bought by both.

Everybody had a Wii, at least every gamer I know.  Of course core 3rd party on Wii would not sell well to people who also had a PS3 or 360.  Pretty obvious they would not buy the low quality multiplat, or shovelware games on Wii.

They shouldn't have given the Wii U grass type. It was a good idea in theory but not in practice

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

They made it underpowered.
They resisted HD gaming.
They were unprepared to launch a console.
They refused to make games people want.
And over all they just do what ever the fuck they want and it's now biting them in the ass.

Short answer: Yes, it's their fault.

@Thread title question: Whose else?

About outselling GC: I think Wii U will do it, and it will eventually sell decently, just because Ninty would be damn retarded to not fix at least the most serious flaws in its strategy and marketing. A smaller gamepad allowing lower production costs and retail price and making happy those that find the current one awkward could help too, but IMVHO this is the only HW flaw (except for driving games, where it can be fine), all its other flaws are in marketing and strategy, so they can and must be fixed.
