My cat could have puked anywhere, but he had to puke on my Wii. I think he was hired by Sony.

If people are tired of Nintendo systems, then what is the 3DS. Or every Nintendo handheld ever?
I'm assuming they don't count because they're handhelds? Pretty convenient!

Love how the OP doesnt consider casuals as people to fit his skewed logic.

He never said that. But it is not easy to get casual gamers changing from one system to the successor. Gaming is not their main hobby, its more a side quest to their other entertainment venues.

So they will have no emotional bond to Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony. When/If they are looking for their next gaming device, all bets are off.

Many of them switched to smartphones or tablets to satisfy their gaming needs. Some of them lost interest in gaming a long while ago. And some of them are quite happy with the games / fitness programs they have for the Wii and won't switch for another few years.

But he did...

I mean is it really? I just think Nintendo's consoles have became less wanted over the generation. They've sold less consoles each generation.

(According to VGChartz)

NES - 61.91M

SNES - 49.1M

N64 - 32.93M

GC - 21.74M

Wii - 100.95M (I think everyone has came up with the consensus that this sold mostly to the casuals)

Wii U - 5.78M ( Which I think it trending lower than the GC)

Honestly, I don't think advertising or more games will actually help the Wii U sell. People are just getting tired of Nintendo systems, and I don't think they can do anything about it.

He might mean differently, but he did say that people are getting tired of nintendo systems and told us that the consensus that when the Wii sold is that it sold to casuals. The natural conclusion is that casuals arent people. xD

Yes, it is Nintendo fault.

Yet, IT IS !     I already said that the approach with WiiU was deadly wrong.   They have to release a powerful console, and focus also on 3rd party support !

It's EA's fault.

Everything is EA's fault.

Okay, so you say that they sold less consoles each generation but the Wii sold 100 million + and you use the excuse that it mainly sold to casuals. That's not even the point: it sold more than the previous generation, and an excuse like that isn't going to make your statement true. I might as well complain that the Xbox 360 sold 10 million consoles to whining kids, but it doesn't matter for the topic. Sales = sales

Indeed, people seems to not realize this. Nintendo could have a loyal fanbase on home consoles but every generation there are less of them. At this point there is nothing they can do. So, its not fully Nintendo's fault, even though they have failed maintaining its own fanbase interested on their systems.

Look at the transition from PS2 to PS3. How many of the 150m ps2 owners shifted to the 360? ALOT

All consoles that sell in high quantities, sell off their own merit, not consumer loyality.

PS3 is not a failure, unlike Wii u and most consoles of the company since N64. A lot of people switched to 360 because launched earlier and it was cheaper. And you are wrong, most sales on Nintendo's systems are because of brand loyalty (Which is 20 million approximately). I would say Sony fanbase is between 15-20 millions and Microsoft has definitely the smallest one.

Exactly. Sony done a hell of a lot to make sure it wasnt, because in the early days it was selling poorly. The success of the ps2 didn't garuntee them success last gen and they had to work even harder.

Also I never said Nintendo's systems don't benefit from brand loyality, I said all systems that have sold in high quantities reach those numbers through the merits of the system, not the brand loyalty. Only Selling 20m over 5-6 years isn't selling in high quantities, so clearly you agree with me.

That market Nintendo was pandering to werent actual gamers. They are actually less applicable that typical casuals. They were buying a fad, hence why they havent returned to save Nintendos ass from this predicament. Nintendo dumbed down the formula to reach a wider audience that Microsoft and Sony hadnt touched and now they are paying for it because they alienated a lot of core gamers. Not only that they did not consult with third parties when making their console. Everyone core Nintendo console (outside of the Wii) has been gradually slipping away in sales. Reaching the market the Wii penetrated is very rare indeed. Thats a once in a blue moon crowd.

Well, I had a Wii and I loved it but I had to ignore a lot of flaws with the console.

"Oh, those graphics aren't so bad."
"Oh, the motion controls work well enough"
"Oh, I didn't really want to play online."
"It's okay. I didn't really want to browse that porn site."
"Oh, I aleady have a DVD player (yeah, I said "aleady" instead of "already")."
"Oh, I don't need any memory. An SD card transfer for my games is good enough."

As a consumer, I shouldn't have to apologize for my product. I just focused on the good that was done in spite of the limited hardware. Yes, I love Nintendo and I was happy to see them doing well but they were doing well at MY expense. I'm forgiving but a lot of gamers probably weren't.

Now, the Wii U in my opinion is an all around great console. It deserves better sales but Nintendo burned a lot of people last gen. They tricked them into buying a Wii. Fans flock towards the hardware that they feel is the best (which is why 360 and Wii caught fire last gen and why PS4 caught fire this gen) but they also don't forget when they got burned (which is why Dreamcast suffered and why Xbox One might suffer). Even me, I put off buying a PS3 because my PS1 and PS2 broke multiple times, causing me to re-purchase the consoles.

TL:DR--the Wii U has to pay the price for being weaker and, like the Dreamcast, it has to pay for the sins of the father.

good to know im not tne only that thinks the Wii actually did more harm than good to ninty in the long run
