That market Nintendo was pandering to werent actual gamers. They are actually less applicable that typical casuals. They were buying a fad, hence why they havent returned to save Nintendos ass from this predicament. Nintendo dumbed down the formula to reach a wider audience that Microsoft and Sony hadnt touched and now they are paying for it because they alienated a lot of core gamers. Not only that they did not consult with third parties when making their console. Everyone core Nintendo console (outside of the Wii) has been gradually slipping away in sales. Reaching the market the Wii penetrated is very rare indeed. Thats a once in a blue moon crowd.
