it's all Nintendo fault, they have become a joke in the console world

all of it is their own fault

I can't see another Nintendo home console now, if it is then it's going to have to be a direct competitor to Sony and Microsoft

Nintendo has buried itself deeply into a hole they wont be able to climb out of, as the walls of this hole are made of cotton candy...

During the last quarterly report, Iwata launched a full array of mega intergalacticly important announcements of announcements of future measures to be taken. But they took no action at all. They keep on buying time by selling smoke. And no one believes them anymore. Trust is lost from consumers, retailers, media, developers and shareholders. Meanwhile they keep on getting bad press because of their misaction and lies.

It's definitely Nintendos fault. It's a major screwup and puts in risk their continuity as one of the big players of the video game stakes. No wonder they have announced that they will be inserting themselves in the medicine and lifestyle business in a very near future

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Yes. Look at your sales. Its obviously something Nintendo is doing.

If people are getting tired of Nintendo systems then it's Nintendo's fault for not getting them interested.

The thread could have ended here. Nintendo's current relationship with consumers are the result of their own decisions. They choose to not listen to their fans and blatantly tell fans that they're not listening. They decide how third party relations are managed. They decide what type of games they create internally. SONY on the other hand openly listens to their fans and have created a website for fans to share their ideas. SONY&MS works closely with third parties and offer them numerous benefits for their support. SONY&MS both try to deliver a wide variety of flavors with their portfolio of games.

EDIT: Forgot a big one that a lot of people seem to have covered. Nintendo chooses what goes into their box and what it can do. It still blows my mind that the Wii couldn't play DVDs.

4 ≈ One

It's entirely nin fault. They are in charge of making an appealing console and everything that goes with it including marketing. The name is just weird too. The price was too high when it first came out..

Yes, Nintendo screwed up.

First, they were relying on casual and non-gamer sales for the Wii U. This did not come thru for them.

Second, the console design was better than PS3 and 360, but not by much, so Nintendo's hardware is limbo... It is more powerful than last gen but it does not measure up to X1 or PS4.

Third and finally, Nintendo did almost nothing to improve their online offering to gamers... Things like trophies/achievements, leaderboards, party chat, in game chat, social media features, etc. Nintendo needs to make an investment in online features.

The only thing Nintendo is doing right is their exclusives. I bought my Wii U just for the exclusives. I play them, then I go back to my X1 and PS4. Which reminds me, I have to go get Tropical Freeze today! Good-bye!

It is Nintendo's fault. I want them to launch some sort of huge ad campaign with all the Wii/DS cash they have.

Great game and AMAZING soundtrack.I don´t think you´ll regret it.

Not going to read the entire thread, but I think it's a combination of reasons rather than just the single-minded reasons people were giving in the first few posts.

The name is potential for one of the reasons the Wii U isn't doing that well, but definitely doesn't explain the extent of it.
The perception of the price to value could be another one, especially given the PS4 is $400. Since Wii U hasn't produced as many mass-appealing games with variety, it also hasn't been getting the investment value going for it too strongly either.
Advertisement for Wii U wasn't strong enough. This is definitely a legitimate argument as the Wii U didn't see as much advertising at it probably would have needed to get its name out there and known as a separate system to the Wii.
Then there's the problem with 3rd party relations. If Nintendo was on better terms with 3rd parties, the system would have more competent 3rd party games than what they do have now.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but to what extent how much each one influenced the poor sales of the Wii U is really anyone's guess.

However, the reasons I gave do pretty much point it to being Nintendo's fault. Personally, I think that going around saying who's fault it is doesn't solve anything as long as Nintendo isn't aware of where the problem lies.

Indeed, people seems to not realize this. Nintendo could have a loyal fanbase on home consoles but every generation there are less of them. At this point there is nothing they can do. So, its not fully Nintendo's fault, even though they have failed maintaining its own fanbase interested on their systems.

Look at the transition from PS2 to PS3. How many of the 150m ps2 owners shifted to the 360? ALOT

All consoles that sell in high quantities, sell off their own merit, not consumer loyality.
