Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Best Bet Is To "Relaunch" Wii U as NFC Toy Machine For Kids

Relaunching a Console is always a fatal mistake, as we learned from Sega. Full on failure of the Wii U is still better than relaunching a new console.

It would be more like a PS3 type relaunch.

Focus most of your marketing on this NFC toy line and keep updating it with new game content every 2-4 months. It should be an evolving "universe" that kids don't get bored of (but NOT a MMORPG).

Oh if that's the case then that is a good idea.

They should definetly get some kind of exclusivity deal with lego and activision (skylanders) or make some american focused kid game exclusives rather than depend on third parties. They also shouldn't spend more than a year on these games or better yet outsource them.

Such a stupid idea, Disney tried this and they failed.

whatever just kill it (Wii U)!

The Disney game isn't very good from my understanding and they don't have a TV show behind it. It's just random Disney characters thrown into one game.

Not entirely focus in it, but also.
A new SKU with a little smaller gamepad, would be nice. And best if the price go down.
Nintendo Universe is a very good idea. But the toys would be given if they buy the correspondent game.
Also, get the exclusivity of skylanders and disney infinity for more variety. (and maybe bring others toy makers, barbie, hot wheels, to make their games. put some indie studies to help the softwares..)

But things like X, metroid, zelda U, bayo2 and this stuff need to still be suported heavily.. At least for retro and japanese developers. Just for nintendo core fans and keep some respect.

This is the worst idea for Nintendo I've ever heard. They'd be better off entering the mobile market instead of jumping on the Skylanders / Disney Infinity bandwagon.

By the way, Nintendo already has a franchise like those two... it's called Pokemon. But God forbid they make a true 3D Pokemon game on their home console, oh no we can't have that! Nah, keep putting out quick cash grabs like the Stadium-type games and Mystery Dungeon / Pokepark. That's sure to send your console flying off shelves.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That's the game the industry needs, but doesn't deserve right now.

It would be kind of fitting if it was a R.O.B. game...
I can imagine little R.O.B. NFC figures...

Have a nice day...

Why exactly doesn't the industry "deserve" it?  Open world 3D adventure / role playing games are huge these days, and the Wii U is the best console Nintendo has had to release a game like this on.  It's now or never for a real 3D Pokemon game.

Nintendo doesn't make money off the Skylanders (or Disney Infinite) toys themselves guys. They only make money on the starter pack/game which is specific to one console.

The point is to top Skylanders/DI ... not to provide them a platform to sell $10 toys off of, where you are not getting any cut of that toy revenue.

It would also be to Nintendo's benefit to take over the retail space Skylanders/DI currently hog up ... it's a huge amount of shelf space.

The idea also should be to introduce kids to characters OTHER than just Mario/Pikachu.

Just a few years ago Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc. were considered B-tier characters for Marvel that most kids weren't all that familiar with. It was all about Spider-Man and the X-Men being Marvel's main properties.

But The Avengers and the Iron Man movies changed that, I think the key here is to get kids to love Fox McLeod and Pitt and Captain Olimar as much as Mario or at least as much as even Kirby.

It's a problem when the main target demographic for a Star Fox game would be a small group of 30-year-old Nintendo fans with younger kids not having a clue about these franchises. Make a TV show and some direct-to-DVD movie specials set in this universe and expand the knowledge of these characters through the game too.
