That's the game the industry needs, but doesn't deserve right now.

Why exactly doesn't the industry "deserve" it?  Open world 3D adventure / role playing games are huge these days, and the Wii U is the best console Nintendo has had to release a game like this on.  It's now or never for a real 3D Pokemon game.
