Forums - Sony Discussion - Around 60% of PS4 Owners Also Have a PS Vita

Makes sense. So far the PS4 sold mostly to the hardcore fan base who are most likely to own a Vita. I don't think this will necessarily lead to a big push for Vita.

what does this tell us?

thats a VERY interesting stat imo.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.  The big name titles on Vita don't sell well either, which is one of the reasons companies are shying away from making new big name Vita titles.  3DS doesn't really seem to have that issue.

What big name titles has the Vita had that haven't "sold well"?

Pretty much everyone putting games out on Vita is happy with the performance of their software.

Really...?  The highest selling game on Vita by vgchartz estimates is Uncharted:  Golden Abyss at a little over 1 million units.  Nothing else broke a million.  Sales like that are fine for smaller games, but for major releases it's just not good enough.

EDIT: (since you added stuff)

What big name titles has the Vita had that haven't "sold well"? Killzone is the only one I can really thing of, and probably the only "big name" game  that could be considered to be under performing. The Vita port of Final Fantasy X isn't tracking too far off the PS3 version despite the difference in userbase and other than that there hasn't really been anything since Assassin's Creed and COD in 2012.

Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate sold better on Vita than 3DS, and FIFA sold better on Vita than 3DS. So I don't get what your gauge is here.

Pretty much everyone putting games out on Vita is happy with the performance of their software as they have confirmed, this is why they continue to make Vita games.

Btw, what are the big name 3DS exclusive games which don't have a Nintendo logo on the box or Monster Hunter?

The Vita port of FFX not tracking far off from the PS3 version more likely means that the PS3 version is just underperforming, plus it's only out in Japan which is Vita's strongest market.  That there 'hasn't really been anything since 2012' is the evidence that major devs aren't happy with software performance.

Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate performed poorly on both systems and wasn't well received.

However, 48% of Vita Software sales being digital means Uncharted likely sold more than that. PS+ sales get added on top of that.

So the most recent cross format mainstream title spinoff that was on both formats underperformed on all handheld systems. Fair enough, but remember the 3DS installbase is approx 6x that of Vita. So if Vita outsells anything at all, it's outperforming the equivalent 3DS sales.

And Final Fantasy is clearly underperforming on PS3 as Vita sales aren't too far off.

This is my point. Vita excels, in anything, and your response is "underperformance" elsewhere. Maybe Vita is just punching above it's weight? This would be the most likely explanation given how strongly the smaller companies like Aksys and XSEED are supporting Vita. They aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they've clearly found a market that is receptive to their products.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

This could just mean that a bunch of guys bought Vita before they bought a PS4, because obviously PS Vita sales haven't spiked to match PS4 sales. Anyway this stat is kind of meaningless.

So much for MS allowing the NSA to use Kinect to spy on us....

When we already know that Sony is "watching" you remoteplay...

Collecting data, how much accounts are connected with a Vita AND a PS4 or collecting data, how much Vitas are registered for remote play on PS4 systems is comparable to the steam hardware survey or how many miles were driven in Forza 5 or how many kils/headshots were made in Halo, Killzone or Dead Rising.

The number of people in the living room + face recognition and how they react to situations in a game/movie (facial expressions, pulse frequency) and other data which can be used for personalized advertisement (clothing, furniture) are much more personal datas IMHO.

60% of PS4 owners have Vitas. Well obviously they were not all purchased with it, so most had one beforehand. Not surprising really. That would be like saying "OMG ITS BAD that 60% of Xone owners also own an Xbox. Or that 60% of PS4 owners also own a PS3." This really means nothing.

I disagree, the difference with the 360 and the PS4 is... they've sold way more.  Vita's sales lead the PS4's since it launched first.... and there are so few Vita's out there, it more or less tells you that the current PS4 buyers are disporportionatly people who see Playstation as a "Lifestyle" brand.

When generally, seeing the spectucular sellouts we are now, you'd expect there to be a much higher "general gamer" mix that mostly has shunned the Vita.

A lower loyalist rate at launch is actually a better sign because it shows better base demand, as other secondary market indicators have their own issues.

That said, i'm not too concerned.   It's just funny how positive PR and things people see as positive should probably be seen as negative and vice versa.  This is just trying to push Vita... and quite honestly, if you have a PS4 and PS+... why not own one?

It probably means nothing, but if PS4 sales do hit a steeper slope then expected... look back at this number.

Thing is, if everyone is always complaining that psfans dominate the internet, then there shouldn't be any problem. PS4 will logically dominate sales so long as psfan = sale

psn+ is a great tool for getting people to buy more playstation family systems once you've invested in it. 1 payment for a games collection on ps3/4 and Vita. If you have a Ps4 with psn+ for online play you pretty much cover the price of buying a vita with all the free games you'll get for it. Genius from Sony as long as it doesn't cost them too much to acquire those games for the service.

Great news. Vita clearly appeals to the Sony fan base.

I could believe about 50% of Vita software sales are digital. But I wonder if PS+ downloads count as a purchase and I assume many of those purchases are cheap downloads like PSone games..

Remote play absolutely sucks donkey balls. I have both a PS Vita and PS4 and I like both consoles, but the remote play feature that Sony likes to show off is horrendous. Graphically the games look fine through remote play, but the lag in the controls completely kills it. This isn't just a little bit of lag, it is unplayable levels of lag. I tried COD Ghosts on Vita with the feature and even moving your character around feels like a task, let alone doing anything else. Sony really needs to improve this feature manifold before it can even be put as a bullet point on the back of the box.
